asoupley Report post Posted December 25, 2014 Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a couple of months, and finally decided to post a picture of my work. This is the first belt I have ever made. I really enjoyed using the basketweave stamp. Constructive criticism is always welcomed -Tony
Rohn Report post Posted December 25, 2014 That is a nice belt. I like that star on it. Does it have a lining and did you hand stitch it?
asoupley Report post Posted December 25, 2014 Thanks Rohn! No, it is not lined. I was thinking about doing that on some of my future belts. It is 8/9 oz leather I believe, and hand stitched. I have a new appreciation for belts now. Holy crap, I was not expecting it to take so long to stitch! The diamond punch I used puts the stitches at 8spi, which is probably excessive for a belt. Now I'm excited about doing another one

Going South Report post Posted December 26, 2014 Outstanding looking belt and the hardware compliments it perfectly. And my hat's off to you for all that hand stitching!

ryankim3612 Report post Posted December 28, 2014 Hello Asoupley, Your belts and holsters are Beautiful! (Prepare for stupid question..here it comes..) Question: do you mold prior to stamping the basket weave? Or stamp the basket weave, and then mold the gun? I saw you holsters, and -being that I've never done anything but a couple of belts-was wondering what came first? Great work, and thank you for sharing. It motivates me to try something new. Cheers
GrampaJoel Report post Posted December 28, 2014 You did a very nice job on the belt. Your copper pieces were a good choice for the belt color. And I do have to ask, since you brought up the hand stitching. If you didn't line the belt, what was the stitching for? I certainly wouldn't do it by hand or otherwise just for decoration, and I own two sewing machines. Joel
asoupley Report post Posted December 29, 2014 @RyanKim3612: Thankyou for the kind words. However, I have never made any holsters... yet! As a matter of fact, this is the only thing I have posted so far. I'm going to assume you can see into the future, which means I bound for greatness! @GrampaJoel: I wasn't originally going to stitch the belt, but it just didn't look right without it. I know it serves no purpose, but I figured it was good practice
cadn24 Report post Posted December 31, 2014 Nicely done. I like the detailing around the star, rather than just sticking it on there, it's a nice finish.
