Members Buckaroo19 Posted January 3, 2015 Members Report Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) Hello everyone this is my first post on here. These are the second pair of bucking rolls that I have made from the Tandy leather factory tack pattern pack. These are beaver hair on hide with basket weave stamping on the frames, Sheep wool stuffed, hand stitched. The Dees are metal with a rawhide edge braid around them that I braided myself. All critiques and tips are welcome. Edited January 3, 2015 by Buckaroo19 Quote

Members Buckaroo19 Posted January 3, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) Bucking rolls are two padded pouches that are secured to the saddle to supplement the swells and help the rider say in the saddle. They are typically found on slick fork saddles, like the saddle in the picture, that have very little width to there swells. Edited January 3, 2015 by Buckaroo19 Quote
Members kiwican Posted January 3, 2015 Members Report Posted January 3, 2015 I read your explanation of what it is, still dont get it, but it looks great! Quote
Members oltoot Posted January 3, 2015 Members Report Posted January 3, 2015 They add swells to a slick fork saddle with the advantage that they are softer and can be positioned more in line with the leg at rest in the saddle and they are a fraction of the weight that the extra wood and rawhide wouls be to make a swell fork tree with the same feel. Look at the knee pads on Aussie buck jumpers and see the similarity. They are usually made of smooth rather than hairy hide but this looks like a cool way to be just a little bit different. Quote
Members Cowboymade Posted January 6, 2015 Members Report Posted January 6, 2015 I'd ride all day with a set like that. Quote

Members Sunny Day Posted March 16, 2015 Members Report Posted March 16, 2015 Nice. I wish I had some on my saddle for the last bucking! Could you show where you screwed them in and what length of screw? Quote
