Members cleanview Posted January 5, 2015 Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 Very nice in deed. Question I have done 3 simple inlays. As in cut out a portion of the re-enforcement and put it between the two pieces. Yours look like they are covering the leather on there own? Hence 1. What kind of exotics are they/? 2. Do they burnish into the other leather well? 3. AND can you share any tips and tricks that would take me to the place that I would do one. Quote
Members Josh Ashman Posted January 5, 2015 Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 Lookin' good Shooter, thanks for sharing! Quote
Members camano ridge Posted January 5, 2015 Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 Shooter, very nice collection of exotics. They all look great. Quote
Members Shooter McGavin Posted January 5, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 Thanks all.cleanview: I typically do overlays of most of the exotics. I try not to with stingray though, but have. Just takes more work. I find that most of the exotics edge and burnish out nicely. Especially shark and elephant. Gator can be tough due to the bony parts. Quill ostrich usually takes a little wax compound to get it looking good. But ya, for the most part, really simple. Just sand well to blend the seam and use a good edger to round it all over nice, then go back and burnish the heck out of it. Let me know if you have more questions on it! Quote
Members Eaglestroker Posted January 5, 2015 Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 I really like that revolver snap rig, and the high ride IWB design. Great work as expected! Quote
Members snubbyfan Posted January 5, 2015 Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 That's some nice lookin' stuff you got there. Quote

Members MonicaJacobson Posted January 7, 2015 Members Report Posted January 7, 2015 All of your holsters are gorgeous. I love the exotics you use. They blend in, they're subtle, but so very nice. I like how you added the, what is it, croc? to the last belt to match it to the holster. And your molding is gorgeous. Anyway, thanks for posting pictures. Quote
Members triage1998 Posted January 7, 2015 Members Report Posted January 7, 2015 Dan love it. Your exotic work is excellent! Quote
Members Colt W Knight Posted January 8, 2015 Members Report Posted January 8, 2015 I like every single one of those holsters. Impressive work. Quote
Members RegasAZ Posted January 8, 2015 Members Report Posted January 8, 2015 Very nice work and variety. Looks like you have the process under control. I hope to get into some exotics in the future. Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted January 10, 2015 Contributing Member Report Posted January 10, 2015 Lookin' good. Ever have an issue with the ostrich shins pulling up (scales)? Seems like angling like that would tend to help with that. Quote
Members RegasAZ Posted January 10, 2015 Members Report Posted January 10, 2015 Outstanding work. I am just now getting up courage to attempt some exotic. Quote
Members Shooter McGavin Posted January 12, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 12, 2015 Thanks fellas! Quote
Members Colt W Knight Posted January 12, 2015 Members Report Posted January 12, 2015 What type of skin is the 1911 in the first pic sitting in? Quote
Members malabar Posted January 14, 2015 Members Report Posted January 14, 2015 Very nice, as usual. What kind of leather is the brown pebble grain used in the 1911 holster? #7 across the top? tk Quote
Members Shooter McGavin Posted January 14, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 14, 2015 The first set in post #20 is shark skin. The brown pebbeled stuff is a piece of hide I found at Tandy. Fairly thin and I think its chrome tanned, I just treated it like an exotic and overlayed it on to a piece of cow. I really like how it looks. Thanks! Quote
