Members Horseshoe Posted May 10, 2015 Members Report Posted May 10, 2015 Here's the latest motorcycle seat I just finished. I posted more pics in the motorcycle gear section. Quote
Members YinTx Posted May 10, 2015 Members Report Posted May 10, 2015 Looks like you have a tremendous amount of hours in this one. I've never tooled, so can't be a judge, but I really like the way it came out. YinTx Quote
Thor Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Very nice! You've done a great job on this seat. Quote
Members venator Posted May 11, 2015 Members Report Posted May 11, 2015 What thickness of leather do you use? How do you finish it so it can handle things like rain? A friend of mine wants me to tool a seat for him and I've never done one so I'm curious. Thanks Quote
Members Horseshoe Posted May 11, 2015 Author Members Report Posted May 11, 2015 The tooled pieces on the top and bottom are 7-8 oz veg tan. The piece on the side is Nomad Oily Side from Tandy leather. First I coat everything with a few gernous coats of neetsfoot oil, some folks don't like neets foot oil because it can darken the dye but I like the richness it brings to the dye. Just my opinion. I let the oil soak in overnight. Then on the veg tan top and bottom panels I put on many coats of Kiwi neutral shoe polish. Apply, brush, buff, and repeat. I use a buffing attachement for my drill to buff with. I also use the same process to care for the seats after I have em on my bike, neets foot oil then shoe polish. Quote

Members Herb G Posted May 13, 2015 Members Report Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) As a tooler of 25+ years, I can see a tremendous amount of hours of work in that seat. Very nice indeed! Edited May 13, 2015 by Herb G Quote
