Singer 29-4 Patcher

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am just starting to learn how to sew and recently purchased a Singer 29-4 Patcher. I have a few questions:

1. Today I learned that a 29-4 is not the same as a 29K4. Is this accurate?

2. It isn't easy to find replacement parts for the 29-4 vs. the 29K4. Part for the 29K4 are still being manufactured. Is this correct?

3. I haven't sown with my machine yet. I need to purchase Thread. www.horsenhaeness.com recommends #138 thread with #69 for the bobbin. Will be learning to sew jacket patches and thin leather projects. Would anyone else agree with this recommendation?

4. Any recommendations for using the machine would be appreciated. Machine is in good condition.

Thank you in advance for your help.

From what I have seen part can be found for both machines. I have a 29-4 and a 29K71 and I am able

to lookup parts for both.

Afaik the 29-4 was made in the US and the 29K4 was made in Kilbowie, Scotland.

The 29 with a single digit subclass are very old. Some parts of the more modern 29K71 will work for this machine but not all. You can find older parts here:

I have restored a 29K1 last Christmass. The 29K1 is like the K4 but the K4 has a side wheel attachment. Maybe you are interested:

Most of these 29-4 will give you problems trying to sew the 138,the next size smaller #92 works better & you use a #20 needle.

Thank you Danny, Constabulary and CowboyBob for your replies.

Danny, what part of New Jersey do you live in?

Anthony.

Ditto what Bob said.

My 29-4 loves 69 thread but does very well with 92.
