Beautiful work as usual Rohn, it makes me want to practice my carving more. I only wish I had more time.

You do great work. I just finished a buscadero rig, left handed, for my favorite customer, me. Not in a class with yours...but I don't have to stick the .45 down my pants at least.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments and encouragement. It is all greatly appreciated.

Now I am working on making a double magazine pouch for a 1911 .45 ACP. Anybody have any tips or plans for one?

I woulden't begin to give you a plan on a holster, your way beyond me,

This latest holster is exceptional in that it displays a very nice desert Rose/Leaf pattern with superb backgrounding, and I too, am a fan of your laced holsters. You've done a great job once again Rohn !

Thanks Wild Bill. I am at this time drawing up a plan for the magazine pouch. Strangely I have made many, many holsters both for revolvers and automatics but I have never made a magazine pouch. I have a customer that seems to think I can make a satisfactory one for him. So with his insistence I will try.

I know you'll succeed ! and it will be a looker , Are you going to lace it ?

Reason for asking is; you have inspired to make a holster for a Hi Point-9mm

and I laced it, as alot of yours are !

And a Magazine pouch just might look good to match ? Wild Bill46

I'm not sure if I will lace it or just sew it. Probably just sew it, although I am going to try to match a holster I made for the Springfield 1911 and the holster is laced.

Good job Rohn. Just one thing, if you decide to not bevel lines that should be beveled, I would at least use a modelling tool to get a better accent to that line and more depth into that picture.

Thanks Thor, I appreciate the comment. What lines do you have in mind though. I thought I beveled all lines that were there, I'm not sure what you are seeing.

Very nice. What stain/antique did you use? I love the color. Looks really rich.

I dyed it with Fiebings Professional Oil Dye in Saddle Tan and then antiqued it with Fiebings medium brown antique dye.

Rohn, I marked the most noticeable areas only. A stem isn't flat on the surface, it's round. Same goes for the rose butt itself. Assuming you used about 6 oz leather for the holster there's not much material available for deep impressions. If you are using a modeling spoon you can shade certain areas to get the visual impression. The main thing is to turn your current 2D carving into a more 3D carving.

If it wouldn't be a holster I'd suggest using a lifter/undercut or pro petal to raise some of the leaves to get more depth, but proper shading with a modeling tool will fool the eye just enough.

On that rose butt I marked, you beveled, but in the wrong direction. If you would have faced it the other direction there you would have gotten a "round" impression.

With all that being said, that's critiquing at a level you are at, which is high, just to help excel.
