In this post i'd like to show you my attempt on edge finishing, using a local edge paint for this and quite love the result, It comes quite thick from the bottle so i added water to it since its water based, to thin the paint, i prefer thin so its easier for me to apply to the edges. Did quite some layering and sanding on this, and finished by polishing a cloth to the edges. Hope you guys like it. Thanks a lot for viewing! Faridz. stu925 Report post Posted November 28, 2015 I don't paint my edges, I dye then use water and burnishing followed by gum trag and more burnishing. Granted my edges are no where near that nice so maybe I should pick up some edge kote and give it a shot. Burnishing is about my least favorite part of working leather. I've even been known to pay one of my kids to burnish just so I don't have to do it. I will say that the amount of burnishing in a project definitely influences the price of the final product. Yes that bursnishing things is not the most fun part of edge finishings, thats maybe why there's lots of jigs around to do that, you might wanted to try to add paint on the last with 2/3 layers, with sanding on a 320grit sandpaper and hopefully it will looks great! And for your question, i didnt use any top coat for that, but i sometimes use clear coat for protection and sand it again, because i prefer a little matte finish that makes it looks more elegant! I get decent results but not quite that nice, I'll give the tan kote a shot. I usually hit the edge with a little resolene while I'm finishing the rest of the holster and that helps.
