Singer 45K5 -- will regular feet fit?

Looking at buying a 45K5 missing its presser foot. Generic industrial lockstitch feet look like they'll work, or could be fettled to work -- as I was advised by a technician. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Looks like the 45K5 was designed for roller feet which may be pricey (there's one on Ebay right now for $117 : http://r.ebay.com/AMAUJB )

I've not tried to install other feet on a 45K so I can't comment on that. I do know that 45K hooks are readily available from various sources, including me   http://r.ebay.com/WCsheT

Ah interesting point I hadn't considered -- would the presser bar be a different size or style to a foot-type machine? The parts list describes the K5 as identical to the K1, except for the roller assembly being substituted for the presser foot. No different presser bar or indeed any other part than those of the roller assembly are listed.

The presser bar of the 45K5 does look like it would also accept regular presser feet with the flat mount point at the bottom of the presser bar. The roller foot appears to just clamp to the round portion of the presser bar above the flat mount point - at least that's what the pictures seem to indicate. Sometimes the different subclasses have only very minor differences with only very few parts swapped out.

Usually the regular 45K feet fit fit if your presser foot bar has a angular shaped end with a threaded hole. The roller foot usually (if its the original) has a ring clamp and slides over the presser foot bar and can moved up and dow freely. If your bars has no angular shaped end (you never know) send me a PM I may have a presser foot bar for you.

Not sure what you consider as Generic industrial lockstitch feet but the standard presser feet of F.I. the Singer 31K15 and the like do not fit. The 45K has MUCH large presser feet.

Looks like the K1 and K5 are identical with the exception of the roller foot, as you said.  Since they share the same presser bar, the usual feet for a K1 or K25 (cylinder arm) will fit on the presser bar.  The roller foot does clamp around the presser bar.  Others more familiar with using the machines will need to tell you if you can sew with a regular foot on a K5.  I suspect it will, because the regular foot sews in place of the roller foot on my K25.  I have an extra roller foot and wax pot if you need them, they're not  Simanco.

No Matt, that is a 45k58. it has what they call a jump foot action. here is a video of one.

one guy is selling feet for this class on ebay for 45 quid!, you can see them all chromed up looking. you would need the screw for holding the foot on also i think. the feed dogs and needle plates etc can be found here: https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/store/Singer45KSewingMachineParts . also ask the owner if it has a shuttle?

Here is the description Matt. i would say this type is better than the 45k1 or 5 as the foot moves with the material unlike the 45k1 etc so you would probably get a little less marking on the bottom side. but remember that this machine could be very worn? you might have to replace more parts than you think and some are not that easy to find, not impossible to find but could be expensive. so hammer that price down as far as possible matt if you are going for it. i personally think it is not worth that money with all of the missing parts and the fact you cannot try it out.
