So, I decided to dedicate a shoulder to straps for bracelets and such.1204161511a-1377x2448.jpg

Here are a few I have almost finished.

So I made a few of these up and well I'm not too sure about them.

They are running 5/8" x 10 1/4" made from 7-8 Herman Oak. My wife thinks they are way too thick. As a man's bracelet I think the thickness is good.

As far as length goes I think they are too long. I have a big wrist and I can wear one on the tightest hole. That is set at 9 inches from the turn of the leather at the buckle.

What I'm asking is does anyone have a set length for buckle holes or snaps for a bracelet.

P.s. these aren't finished yet. I still have to work the edges and sew them.

I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with.

Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day.

The longest bracelet I make is what I call a size 9. It's 9'' between snap centers and will fit almost all big wrists. I also use 7/8 leather.

But what about smaller people? 6 inches? 7?

Thanks.

I don't make a one size fits all. I start at 6 1/2" and go to 9" in 1/2"  increments.

Thank you very much.

I forget where I found it but I found a bracelet and necklace length guide. I'll see if I can find it and upload it for you

Every day you learn something is a good day. If you don't learn something every day, was it worth waking up for?

for a men's bracelet I tend to use 8 to 9 oz leather ladies 4 to 5 width tends to be smaller for the ladies then the guys as well. For men's width wise I tend to use any where between 1.5 to 2 inch width length normaly speaking I just use my own wrist size which is about 20 cms so a 10 inch bracelet (end to end) is my standarded

Hi Bikermutt07, Firstly I don't know about how others do it as I am entirely self taught but I would normally finish my edging before applying the buckles and then touch up after. 5/8" sounds a bit narrow for most men to me.Getting the length right on a wristband is pretty difficult but what I have come up with works for most. When doing a buckle style as shown in the picture I do one at 7 1/2" at centre hole which does small men and most ladies, and one at 8 1/2" which covers most men. Another idea is a link style that allows you to remove links to suit. Mostly for ladies I think but I don't know for sure.Other than that if using snaps etc the lengths I use go from about 6" to 8 1/4" in 3/4" jumps. Reckon that bout covers it. Regards Brian

Thanks Brian. For being self taught you sure crank out a lot of high quanity, higher quality merchandise.

I'm really taking these on as a precursor to collars and belts. So, do you finish your edges before you skive for the buckles?

Would 1" straps be a better fit for men's bracelets?

I was planning on them being 3/4 but alas, I had bought 5/8 buckles. I have some of the same buckles in 1" but they seem bulky for bracelets. I had actually bought them for collars. But they seem too big for my 20 pound dogs.

Yes I would generally do the skiving after the edging then apply a little heat if necessary to pull back to shape and touch up edges if required.

A tapered strap is quite common for wrist straps I think to accommodate a smaller buckle but sometimes the right buckle can be used, it really depends on the weight of the buckle and peoples taste. Taking the top picture I put in and making a veg centre piece or whatever might be a way to use up the 5/8" straps. Here is a similar use in one I've made for watch bands etc.
