308 Report post Posted January 9, 2017 Does anyone know where I can find a thicker gauge (.097" thick, or so) straps or belting that is a minimum of 85" long? Need it to be 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" wide. Just FYI skiving herman oak is kinda tough even with a sharp blade. Wet it and then skive. I thought my blade wasn't sharp enough yet come find out it was the leather cause it was so dense. fivewayswelshcobs Report post Posted January 9, 2017 You can get the length by using rein or harness back ie shoulder and butt together, the strongest bit is down the backbone but you will need to watch the shoulder end as it will be lighter in weight and more stretchy.
