dikman Report post Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) In another thread Red Cent mentioned he used a Quilter's template to aid in making his stitching pattern. Seemed like a good idea, but when I finally found one it was a tad expensive (over AU$30), so I spent some time on ebay and eventually found this - $2 shipped from China. Good enough for me. Max. diameter is 120 mm, about 4 3/4". Edited August 28, 2017 by dikman
RhodesAveDesigns Report post Posted August 28, 2017 eBay link? Please? I have a template used for engineering purposes, and a coupe french curve sets, but I like the possibility offered by this template in terms of pattern placement. And I know from past experience that the descriptive titles used by Chinese eBay sellers are seldom what I "think" they should be.
480volt Report post Posted August 28, 2017 A bit off topic, but someone posted a link to these folks a few months ago: http://windfiredesigns.com/Products/index-products.html Sexiest circle templates I've ever seen.

I did find others when I was looking, this was the cheapest then but prices do fluctuate on ebay. 480volt, those are very classy. Dwight Report post Posted August 28, 2017 Well, . . . that's a pain, . . . "Seller doesn't post to the United States" May God bless, Dwight
dikman Report post Posted August 28, 2017 That's bizarre! Looking at the exclusions it seems like most of the world is excluded!!! If you look on ebay there are others who sell these things, I'm sure some will post to the US.
RhodesAveDesigns Report post Posted August 28, 2017 Dwight- I copied the auction title, then pasted it into the eBay app (or just use the classic site), and got several hits, all shipping to the US for a grand total of $3.53. Thank you for posting the link; this time, the seller's title was purely descriptive, unlike some eBay listings. Now, to wait 4-6 weeks....
dikman Report post Posted August 28, 2017 No worries. Normally shipping from China to Oz takes anywhere from 3-5 weeks, this one came in just over a week!
garypl Report post Posted February 18, 2018 I’m planning a design that calls for concentric circles to create a border. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to draw them. Went to Hobby Lobby today and while browsing around I found this circle drawing device that allows you to draw concentric circles up to 4” in diameter. Simply position the template, put a stylus in one of the holes and rotate the inner template. Move the stylus to another hole and draw another circle concentric with the first - simple and easy to get perfect results. With discount coupons I think the cost was about $2.80! alpha2 Report post Posted February 18, 2018 Wait, what?? You ALWAYS need to buy a new tool.
Rossr Report post Posted February 19, 2018 I recently bought the smaller circle tool from windfire designs and I am real happy with it. Bit pricey but I suspect it will outlast me Ross
alpha2 Report post Posted February 20, 2018 I got that one too, from Windfire...I filed off the sharp edges because I use it on veg tanned leather, that has been cased, and don't need the sharp edges making imprints on my work. Just a heads up.

Just a heads up. I saw the Windfire circle templates in this forum some time ago and they look really wel made, but oh they are pricey. I see how you can draw concentric circles by moving up or down one size, but how does it work when you have to skip a size or two? Nice feature is that you can probably cut leather using the template- can’t do that with the plastic model I bought. I figured for under $3 the plastic model would be worth a try and it seems to work quite well. Gary

Just a heads up. Thats a great point. I havent used it on wet or cased leather yet but I can see that being smart to file the edge off. 22 minutes ago, garypl said: I saw the Windfire circle templates in this forum some time ago and they look really wel made, but oh they are pricey. I like that on the windfires there are lines centered on each circle to line them up. Yes you could cut with them. However for 3 bucks...yours is hard to beat too and I may have to find something like that in the future. I got tired of using jar lids, cans etc that was around the shop.....hence why I got the template. One thing I noticed on mine there is a ridge in the middle both inside and out. I am not sure if this is intentional or due to how they are made. ITs not a problem really but if you used a standard graphite pencil it grooves it as you trace the circle. Again not a biggie....but makes me curious Does yours have that @alpha2 I would love to have the larger one too...but I am not ready to pony up for that one

Ross, that’s exactly the same reason I was happy to find a circle template - always looking for lids to use to draw circles!

alpha2 Report post Posted February 20, 2018 Yes, mine has the ridge, and it does put a groove in the pencil lead. I think they explained the reason for it on their web page, I did have a conversation with them about the sharp edges, they said the primary use of the template is for marking and cutting thin fabric for their kites, and they help hold the fabric in place while cutting. I guess we're kind of re-purposing them for our use. I passed on the larger template too, way pricey. Jeff
