Members Sanch Posted December 18, 2017 Members Report Posted December 18, 2017 Recently switched to the Aquilim 315 best choice and investment I've made since I started a long time ago plus T-S-Boy glue pot and mini silicone brushes from Rockler. Wish I'd have gotten both years ago the cost would've been easily offset by ease of use, smell, and easy cleanup not to mention all the times I've dumped glue due to it drying up to messy boogers in the pot. Such a waste oh well hindsight and all. Quote
Members Squilchuck Posted December 18, 2017 Members Report Posted December 18, 2017 I hate the solvent glue smell too, and its definitely not good for you. I use the Renia water-base glues when I can. if I have to use a solvent glue, then I use the less toxic Renia or Barge cements in a fan-vented room and I wear a good respirator that completely filters out the solvent odors. I bought mine at Lowes off the shelf. --John Quote
alpha2 Posted December 19, 2017 Report Posted December 19, 2017 Sanch, what is the Aquilim like as far as instant "grabbing" power? I like that when I use Tanner's Bond, after letting it set a bit on the pieces, when it's put together, it's TOGETHER. I do hate the waste, though, when the last third of the can is a rock. I got some of their thinner, and it's still an uphill climb to get anywhere a full can's use out of a can. Rockler doesn't seem to have the T-S-Boy glue pot on their site anymore, a shame, because I get down to Denver regularly, but a lot of other place have it, and it's what I see all the time on professional leatherworkers pics. There is a different applicator brush for Aquilim as opposed to the solvent based stuff. Quote So much leather...so little time.

I have never seen those Glue pots with different brushes for water based and solvent based. (The blue ones produced by Minor) Just now i only have one glue pot (for water based) but i need a couple more for other solvent based glues. Where can i read about the different versions? Quote

Maybe Sanch has some insight on this. Jeff Quote So much leather...so little time.

If you need a smaller brush, then you can use any brush you want. Quote
alpha2 Posted December 19, 2017 Report Posted December 19, 2017 Good to know! Thanks. Quote So much leather...so little time.

I did purchase my ts boy glue pot from Sorrell Notions the brushes I got from Rockler were there small detail brushes I did not get them from the same place that I bought the glue pot. I suppose that the brush that the glue pot came with would work just fine I just wanted a silicone brush that I could clean easily and as of yet have to be disappointed in any way shape or form with the silicone brush I got from Rockler Quote

There is a slight learning curve but once you understand that the glue does tack up after a few minutes or you can force it with a heat gun the bond is more less instant and very very strong I would put it against any solvent-based cement that I have used. the way that I use it is I heat it with a heat gun and then Hammer my glued edges it has been working flawlessly. alpha2 Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 Thanks for the replies Sanch, I'm not in such a hurry I can't wait a bit for glue to set up a bit. I also use a hair dryer to speed things along, so the Aquilim would work fine for me too. And it looks like there's a glue pot in my future. Jeff Quote So much leather...so little time.
