Members Brooks125 Posted December 28, 2017 Members Report Posted December 28, 2017 I'm sure this has been asked, I just can't find it. Is there a better way to seal live(NOT loaded) guns when wet-molding holsters? I use packing cling wrap, which works OK, but I end up spending more time cleaning, drying and oiling guns than I do working leather. The cling wrap does about a 90% job of it most times. I'm just wondering if there is a miracle method out there to keep live guns dry during wet molding. Also, I vacuum mold the holsters for the rough mold ... if that makes a difference. A shop press in in the near future! Thanks! Quote
Members Fire88 Posted December 28, 2017 Members Report Posted December 28, 2017 I use a ziplock bag for wet molding, I don’t vacuum or press them though. Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted December 28, 2017 Members Report Posted December 28, 2017 +1 for Ziploc bag. I oil the gun lightly before it goes in the bag and wipe it down afterword. Quote

Members Dwight Posted December 28, 2017 Members Report Posted December 28, 2017 (edited) I gave up on the press idea a number of years ago when so many of the guns became plastic fantastics. I knew the day would come when I'd crush one, . . . and wind up unhappy having to replace a 500 dollar gun for a 75 dollar holster. I use a vacuum setup, . . . put the gun in the holster, . . . wipe it down with an oily cloth afterwards, . . . never have had a problem or an angry client. I also don't get those screwy looking lines down the inside of the holster where the zip lock bag folded over or bunched up. May God bless, Dwight Edited December 28, 2017 by Dwight Quote
Members chiefjason Posted December 29, 2017 Members Report Posted December 29, 2017 They'll survive a little water. Even the cheap ones. I let my leather case for 17-18 minutes. Then mold the holster. Wipe the gun off and let it air dry. Never had a problem. Quote
