Damascus, Antler and Leather......My oh My.

Recommended Posts

Finished this knife off this week.  Damascus blade(Damascus from Alabama Damascus, profiled, bevels ground, heat treated by me though).  Handle guard is damascus, red spacers some kind of burl wood, stacked leather and then antler.   Sheath is veg tan leather dyed mahogany fieblings.   Got to finish up the snap yet and put finish on it but figured I would put a pic up of it.  Overall happy with the results.  The learning never ends though!

http://www.alabamadamascussteel.com/

Its a company that makes damascus steel.   I bought a billet which is a rectangle hunk of damascus and then I cut out the knife shape I want and grind the bevels. I just want credit where credit is due and to always represent my work correctly.  I dont want anyone thinking I personally made the damascus myself. So I pointed out the damascus maker.   Please note I am not affiliated with the company at all and just found them on the net.  I am pleased with the damascus they made thought.

Ok, I have never heard of them, and was wondering what kind of backwoods hillybilly steel it was :) I actually used to know a guy who would make his own Damascus, watched him do it many times. My hat is off to folks who can not only do it, but do it well. That is more art than skill ;)

That's a nice looking blade. Pattern welded (aka Damascus steel) makes my heart go pitter patter-- in a good way, of course!
I've got a dagger blank of pattern welded steel. Sometimes I get it out and look at it and tell myself that one of these days...yes, some day...not this  year, but maybe the next or year after... it will get made into an actual knife.

New year starts tomorrow!  get that blank out and figure out what handle you will put on it and get to work.   Then make a great sheath for it too!!   Thanks for the compliment.
