This is about 3/4"-7/8" wide buckle from a mixed lot of leather hardware. For the life of me I cannot figure how to use the loop on the left.

Can anyone with experience with this sort of buckles point me in the right direction? Much appreciated!

You could mount it on the belt as a keeper

It could also be used on a medieval type as the loop before the belt knot

Yes, I know that the piece on the left is a keeper. The question is - how do I use it? Is the current rotation correct, or upside down, or turned about, etc?

The keeper should be oriented so the belt enters the keeper with the direction of the bevel so the belt will be easier to put through and will lay flatter.
