Members InfernoBestia Posted May 11, 2018 Members Report Posted May 11, 2018 So, I know quite a few of us leatherworkers are ex military or know connections to people who were in or still are. I'm currently serving in the U.S. Army and have resolved with my brother that we are going to open a milsurp store in our local city. We have already surveyed about 10 thousand people and have received overwhelmingly positive feedback, largely from paintballers, airsofters, hunters, and people who just love plain old war history. We are starting to run into supply chain issues, as a lot of our previously suppliers whom we thought were stable are no longer fully reliable. Just figured I would reach out and try to network a bit and see who knows what! I've heard from multiple different people that there are a few warehouses in america and europe that just stockpile metric tons of milsurp, and that these are the guys you want to try and get into contact with since they are the only people genuinely capable of supplying a reliable stream of milsurp goods. Any help is appreciated, and I am still interested in buying individual pieces from people who are willing to let go of them. Quote
alpha2 Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Curious, what area are you looking at to open a store? Quote

Contributing Member fredk Posted May 13, 2018 Contributing Member Report Posted May 13, 2018 In the UK military surplus outlets dodn't actually get their stuff from the military. Nor does the military sell on surplus. They have clearance agents who arrange the disposal of surplus, either through specialised auction houses, specialised dealers and even to foreign countries. You have to be part of the business and known in the market place before you can buy and sell UK military surplus. Most surplus shops in the UK sell mostly old stuff from the former Soviet Union and its satellite states and just a little bit of UK militaria Quote
Members Orangeleather Posted May 24, 2018 Members Report Posted May 24, 2018 As @fredk has highlighted sourcing your suppliers within the military surplus environment can be an ongoing relentless challenge. Unsure how may governent affiliated websites are stateside however most are primarily bankrupt stock or auction job lots, and from the UK it's networked via DS&E which is part of the MOD chain, which is the British version of the US DOD. Good luck with your venture. Quote
