RKCrowe Posted June 21, 2018 Report Posted June 21, 2018 I’m about to do my first motorcycle seat recovering. Nothing exciting, just new leather. I plan to have a bottom and top pieces sewn together. Please, what is the minimum/maximum size thread that you would use? Thank you, Richard Quote
Members Fire88 Posted June 22, 2018 Members Report Posted June 22, 2018 What are your options? I’d this 207 as the minimum I’d use. Quote
Members Tugadude Posted June 22, 2018 Members Report Posted June 22, 2018 Helps to know what kind of seat. Is it a "mattress" saddle? How much of the stitching will show? Post a pic for the best responses. And remember strength is important too, so don't sacrifice durability for looks. Are you machine or hand stitching? Quote
Members Dwight Posted June 22, 2018 Members Report Posted June 22, 2018 I use 346 thread at 6 stitches per inch on belts, holsters, purses, billfolds, . . . darn near everything, . . . never any problems. I wouldn't think a pony seat would be any different. May God bless, Dwight Quote
Members chrisash Posted June 22, 2018 Members Report Posted June 22, 2018 It will be important that it is UV protected thread regardless of Hand or Machine to give it a long life Quote
RKCrowe Posted June 23, 2018 Author Report Posted June 23, 2018 Sorry! Rookie mistake, I will be hand stitching, just around the perimeter of the seat where the top and bottom pieces meet. Seat shaped like old fashioned bike seat, with a thin closed cell foam cushion on flat metal seat pan. As of now I’m planning to use 1mm tiger thread. Sorry no pictures as I am away from the project. Thank you Richard Quote
Members Tugadude Posted June 23, 2018 Members Report Posted June 23, 2018 1mm Tiger with around 6 or 7 spi sounds like the ticket Quote
