Members Tc1388 Posted September 23, 2019 Members Report Posted September 23, 2019 Second post on sewing machines because I know nothing about them other than they’re faster than by hand... I just purchased the cowboy 3200 and set the speed to 600 so it goes slower until I’m used to it. As I stitch, letting off the foot pedal to slow the machine down it makes a humming rubbing noise. I’ve oiled the machine over to see if it’ll help, nothing. Just wondering if anyone who has this machine knows if this is normal. The last thing I want to do is wear the machine out prematurely. Thanks! Tim Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted September 23, 2019 Moderator Report Posted September 23, 2019 Can you try this without leather or top thread in the needle? Try to isolate where the rubbing noise is emanating from. Quote

Members SARK9 Posted September 23, 2019 Members Report Posted September 23, 2019 Sounds like yet another possible case of Cork Brake Shoe Rubbing, *if* you are using one of the speed dial graphite brushed "servo" motors. The brake could be engaging while the motor is still having voltage applied at a very slow speed. -DC Quote
Members Tc1388 Posted September 23, 2019 Author Members Report Posted September 23, 2019 Thanks for the responses. It’s hard to isolate the noise but it sounds like it’s coming from the bobbin area. If I can post a video I’ll try to. Ryan Neele said it’s a humming noise it’s normal, sandpaper noise is not. It just sounds like a rubbing noise. Quote
Northmount Posted September 25, 2019 Report Posted September 25, 2019 @Tc1388 Take the belt off and turn the machine by hand to see if it makes any unusual noise. With the power off and the belt off, turn the motor pulley and see what you hear. Try it without pressing the pedal, and with various amounts of pressure on the pedal. When searching for the location of a noise, you can take a short length of garden hose (or similar), put one end against your ear, and move the other end to check locations the noise is coming from. You don't need to press the open end of the hose against the machine, just close to it. It helps to eliminate other noise distractions and home in on the source area. Tom Quote
CowboyBob Posted September 25, 2019 Report Posted September 25, 2019 There is a screw in the shuttle that the bobbincase pivots on when you open it,once in a while it can loosen up & rub against the race & make noise. Also if you pull it out to check it make sure to tighten the 2-race screws all the way & back them off 1/2 turn so the race can float. Tom Well the second day I was practicing on it, the main screw that goes into the center of the wheel fell out. When I was done I noticed it sitting next to the wonder, so I just screwed it back in along with the set screw. Idk if that could be a cause for any concern.. Do you maybe have a picture of which screw? Or should I just attempt to tighten them all probably Quote
