Members chriscraft Posted October 18, 2019 Members Report Posted October 18, 2019 I’m making a field notes leather cover for a Police Chief friend of mine. Originally I made one in black but lost much of the detail. I’m thinking dying this one tan or just leaving it natural color. Will decide once I’m done adding lettering. Quote
Members Bawarrior Posted October 19, 2019 Members Report Posted October 19, 2019 Very nice, especially the sword, nice touch Quote
Members chriscraft Posted October 19, 2019 Author Members Report Posted October 19, 2019 Here is the first day book cover I made. As you can see when dyed solid black, you lose most of the eagle detail. Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted October 19, 2019 Contributing Member Report Posted October 19, 2019 It still looks very good though Quote
Members battlemunky Posted October 19, 2019 Members Report Posted October 19, 2019 That thing is full of win! I kind of like the black too... Quote
Members chriscraft Posted October 19, 2019 Author Members Report Posted October 19, 2019 Thanks. I do like the black cover, it’s the color most officers carry. Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted October 19, 2019 Contributing Member Report Posted October 19, 2019 (edited) Yeah, the black sorta 'works'. Only RELIABLE way I've seen to do yellow and/or white is acrylics, and I tend to avoid acrylics on "flexy" articles that will see use. I might have carved the thing 'inverted'to avoid excessive matting of the "halo". Would have given a "beveled edge" look to the shield, which would work nicely since it's bordered. Just think-out-loud noise.. pay no attention Edited October 19, 2019 by JLSleather Quote
wizard of tragacanth Posted October 19, 2019 Report Posted October 19, 2019 Nice work! I'm sure that black is most frequently used but a lighter color shows off you work much better. I think it would look great in Red but I don't know if that would be appropriate for this type of thing. nick Quote
Members chriscraft Posted October 20, 2019 Author Members Report Posted October 20, 2019 I dyed it with pro oil saddle tan Quote
wizard of tragacanth Posted October 20, 2019 Report Posted October 20, 2019 Oh yeah, I really like the way that shows your work! nick Quote

Members chriscraft Posted October 21, 2019 Author Members Report Posted October 21, 2019 (edited) Thanks again. I just finished this cover. Stitched with 277 bonded nylon thread. It will provide many years of service. Edited October 21, 2019 by chriscraft Quote
