How You Can Help Leatherworker.net

Recommended Posts

Some of you have asked me what you can do to help leatherworker.net. It is great that so many of you care about this site, and its goals of education, entertainment & fellowship.

PARTICIPATE

Post new topics, reply to existing topics. Share pictures, join in chats, ask questions and tell your stories. We have such a variety of leatherworkers here, in all ranges of experience and specialty levels. that it is easy to make new friends and learn from each other.

CONTRIBUTE

If you can spare a few dollars, click "My Controls" at the top of the page and "Purchase Paid Subscriptions" on the left. Any size donation is accepted, and all money is used to pay the site's bills. No one here gets paid a salary, this site is a labor of love. Contributing members get a few extras, like bigger mailboxes for PMs, and their names are in blue. Any help is appreciated.

EDUCATE

If you can do a tutorial, or share a video, or host a chat session, you are giving a huge gift to leatherland. I am available for any technical assistance you need. The staff will change your member title to "Instructor" and you will be able to see the "School Room" forum, where instructors can compare notes and share ideas for leatherworking classes, chats and demonstrations. You can always PM me here, or write to admin@leatherworker.net for more information.

TELL YOUR FRIENDS and associates about this site. Send them a link and invite them to join. I'll put on more coffee and find them a seat. Link to us on your website, and we'll link to you here. Let your local leather guilds know that they can use a private chat room for meetings, or a public one for recruiting. We are delighted to meet new folks from all walks of leather, so spread the word!

Thank you everybody for the support and extra encouragement following the January 3 crash. I get choked up thinking about all the kind words from leatherworkers around the world. It's good to know that people really care about what we are doing here, and are loyal and regular about logging in. If I ever need to justify the sleepless nights and the dents in my forehead from falling asleep at the keyboard, I can just reread the mail. You folks are the best!

Hey I was wondering if there is a way that you could send out a pm to those of us whos paid subscriptions run out. I know its all voluntary to donate and I cant donate much but I can do a certain amount every couple months however I forget about it. Just an idea for the people who generally pay a little bit.

It doesnt have to be a spam attack or anything just a friendly one time only PM.

Thanks

Hello, Goooodmorning an thanks for the upgrades. I know it's a work in progress, isn't always?

Suggested change/addition while we are at it. Knot that your plate isn't full enough. LOL

FABRICATION: We have sewing leather and Leather Sewing Machines, NOW! How about: Sewing of Leather Hand/Machine, Leather Sewing Machines, AND.....Other Fabrication Machines!

We have Skivers, Presses, cutters and strapping machines, burnishing, finishing and Molding machines, templates and Jigs, ETC,ETC,ETC! Why knot a place for those alone??????

Just a thought...while your at it. HAHA!

Thank you , really

Kevin

That's a good idea. When we set up the original forums we didn't anticipate the interest in all the "other machinery" you mentioned. (We didn't think we'd have 30,000 members either, but, hey, our coffee is always fresh and hot and people like it here.) Thank you for the suggestion. It's on the list.

Johanna I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done, and did before all the changes. I'd be more than happy to do a tutorial if I new what on. I'm getting ready to start a guitar strap that will have hand sewn plugs, stamping and carving. I could take pictures of the process for other people.I also could explain how I made my messenger bag although it's kinda late for the pictures, although I did take a few along the way. There are people much more qualified than I am for both topics but I am willing to do either.

OR I could do a step-by-step tutorial on starting a leather business. I started that process here last January and I'm still in the process. It's a huge undertaking and I can make that part really clear :-) I mean if you do it right with a business plan, marketing strategies, and keeping up with all your paperwork. Let me know if I can help. Cheryl

Thank you Johanna, leatherworker net has become a important part of my live. I will echo what Kevin suggest, we need a forum for leather working machines. The "leather sewing machines" forum is already one of our largest. I do need to post several topics about skiving, splitting and clicking machines. I feel of topic if i post them in the "Leather tools" or the "leather sewing machines" forum. I know you have your hands full with the forums we already have. Nevertheless, we need a "leather working machines" forum, who will cover all other leather machines. Or maybe a new name on one of the existing forums. However, there is a possibility it will grow too big and untidy that way. I know there is a lot of members who wish there was such forum here. Please consider to make one.

In advance thanks.

Tor

First, thank you Johanna for an outstanding site dedicated to education and fellowship for us, the leather worker, be it hobbyists or professional.

Second, I encourage all to contribute what they can moneitarily to this site. If you factor in the knowledge you will recieve, the patterns and tutorials, the tips on old and new items, not to mention all of the expereince and you get all of this for free, then a few dolllars is an outstanding deal. I have saved enough from the expereince and direction of others on this site to cover a contibution. Just my two cents worth.

Hi Johanna, What those other people said! You are definitely up for a sainthood. This forum has been worth so much to me in assisting me to work out a few things, understand things better that I thought I knew and first and foremost it has helped me to figure out some questions that previously I had no concept of.

One thing I would like to suggest if its not already in place, is it possible to make a search function (especially within the 'For Sale' and 'Wanted' tabs) that will enable people to search by country or within a specific area? As I live in Australia, some items that are in Europe or USA are not available to me because of weight or postal conditions. If I could search for goods, such as tools, a sewing machine or dyes etc, which are available within my reach, that would be an enormous help.

Kindest regards

Brian

I am no longer in the leather business and I would like to remove my account from the forum and website. I am still receiving emails from the site even when I have chosen not to receive them. I have tried to contact the website multiple times, probably at least 20 times with no response. I would like to completely remove this account from the forum and website. Thanks.

I thought at one time there was an option to buy a membership or subscription to the site? That would make it a business deduction!!
