Adler 30-70 Stitching

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a Adler 30-70 and the problem is that when sewing threw 2 layers of leather and moving the fabric from right to left it will sometimes skip stitches. On 1 layer no problem any direction. the needle to hook clearance is as close as I can get it. The eccentric screw will not turn for me either. I am at a bit of a loss. I have another one of the same machines and I don't have any issues at all.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Since you have another 30-70 I would try the hook from the other machine and see if it makes a difference.

Well thats something we cannot solve online. I would apply heat and / or penetrating oil.

Shine a flashlight under the body and see if there is a locking nut on the back of the eccentric bolt joining the vertical and horizontal shafts. If so, it has to be loosened to change the timing.

This is one of the many ways it can skip. But it's better to look for things like this before you start turning wrenches.

Lower the needlebar all the way down & make sure the spring is pressing against the thread like it should, once in a while a piece of thread can get caught in there & hold it open, sometimes they just get bent & need to be replaced. Also do you have enough pressure so the leather is being held down?
