Members AzShooter Posted May 3, 2020 Members Report Posted May 3, 2020 I'm trying to make my first wallet and would like to know what size thread I should use and what needles would be best? My holes are size 00. It's from the Tandy book for a 3 fold. It's my practice piece but I'd like to be able to get a good example. Quote
Members DJole Posted May 3, 2020 Members Report Posted May 3, 2020 What is the leather, and how thick is it (in ounces or millimeters)? Quote
Members AzShooter Posted May 3, 2020 Author Members Report Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) Thanks for the link. It's from Tandy and is 3 - 4 oz. I'm using a size 00 punch and the large needles that come from Tandy. Edited May 3, 2020 by AzShooter Quote
Northmount Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 @AzShooter Moved your post to sewing leather. You should get more action here. Tom Quote
Members johnv474 Posted May 5, 2020 Members Report Posted May 5, 2020 in general, wallets are sewn at 6-8 stitches per inch (spi), except for some extra-distressed or rugged styles that may be 4-5 spi. At 8 spi I suggest thread around 0.02" or 0.5 mm. For 7 spi I recommend something around 0.6mm. For 6 spi, 0.30" or 0.8mm. For 5 spi, I suggest 0.04" or 1.0 mm. For 4.spi, I suggest 0.05" or 1.2mm.
