mrbeebs23 Report post Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) Hi y'all! Attached is my finished first attempt at figure carving as well as incorporating the Mexican Basketweave lacing technique. I learned a lot during this process mainly what not to do next time. I.e. I will make rounded corners on the leather canvas so the lacing will cover them nicely and tightly. Is there anyway to get the lace closer together? Does it depend how I space the lacing slits? I will always be my toughest critic but I am very happy with how "Buddy" turned out. Like I said before, I've taken notes on things that I will change or improve on in the next project. Feedback is welcomed. Happy crafting! Brett C. Rohn Report post Posted April 5, 2015 I like the dog carving. Nice job. That Mexican Basketweave is a really nice lacing weave. I use it on wallets, change purses and things. Just remember that on the corner holes you need to go through them four times and the hole before and the hole after the corner you go through three times. Keep up the good work. mrbeebs23 Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Hey Halitech, I hope this response gets to you. I used a 1/8" chisel for my lacing slits. I did not punch holes. Halitech Report post Posted April 12, 2015 the slits should be in 1/8" from the edge then if you used 1/8 lace and slits. Is it just a single slot chisel? if it is, you might want to pick up a 4 prong, makes the punching go much faster. Also, you may want to go with a 5/32" for the 3 corner holes.
