Hi! I recent got a Astor hand press, the A51, classic grey etc etc And know I want to stock my arsenal with tools and attachments for this fantastic machines. So I bought what I thought was a genuine Astor tool-adapter-thing that I needed for a lot of my old attachments. ***All of this text end my questions is about the upper threads on the machine*** And the tool didn't really fit, you know it that way when the threads are not 100% in the feel when you screw it in the first time. Back and forth for a couple of days, with the official Astor seller in Sweden, and we couldnt figure out what was wrong. So I took the situation in my own hands and started to dig! After a …

I'm going over a pair of United Carr M245 motorized snap setting machines. Doing the usual, cleaning, adjusting, etc and thought to replace the drive belts. My usual cheat method is to just remove a flat belt when I come to one and replace it with a heavy cogged v belt and changing the pulley on the motor to a V type while leaving the larger driven one flat. This time around I may have hit a bump in the road. Best I can tell, the driven pulley doesn't have any way around it for a standard belt. I can't really get a good look in there, but best I can tell I'd have to disassemble the machines to get a v belt in? Anyone replace a belt in a M245 type be…

I recently acquired a Stimpson 405. The driver and anvil are for grommets. Has anyone adapted one of these rivets or snaps? How about converting to another brand like Weaver? Thanks, Randy

Some of the youtubers we follow have neat toys to make processors better/quicker. One such item I drool over in the Campbell Randell Variable Speed Burning Machine. Chances of getting one in Australia are pretty minimal and if it was available, I would probably be hit with a 50% export Tariff ;). So I after some time on my CAD I came up with these. The sanding wheel is 89mm diameter and has a small flat area so the sand paper has a slight overlap and you don't feel a bump. I choose the diameter to suit strips cut from an standard sheet of wet and dry sand paper. Currently I am testing 180 grit and am extremely satisfied. The Dust collector is NOT m…

I didn't want to tag this onto the sewing machine accidents post so I'll say it here. Many years ago an engineering pal told me about the day when when a 1 1/2 inch by 12 inch grindstone came loose at full speed. It whizzed around the workshop 3 times causing much damage before coming to a stop such was the inertia. My worst nightmare accident is getting a tie caught in one of those. You wouldn't be able to stop it in time. Makes me shiver. Is why ties are banned.

My skiver spins when nothing on it but doesn't with the leather. I tried sharpening but it even stops spinning when the grinder hits it. So frustrating. VOD_20250701_204608.mp4

I'm in the market for a 15 ton press whether the Tippmann or a standard hydraulic clicker. Anyone have any feedback on the Tippmann? I've read a few statements that claim it does not hold to a true 15 tons of pressure, but again those are far and few between. Tippmann claims it can cut 1/2" leather. I think the thickest I would be cutting is 1/4", but those will be very intricate 30" dies with up to fifty(50) 1/16" to 1/8" punch holes. Not here to bash the name, but need transparent feedback on actual performance.
