I'm a small time hobbiest who does sell a goodly number of belts and black powder revolver holsters. My burnisher currently is a small Harbor Freight drill press with 1/2 inch chuck. I make my own purpleheart hardwood rotary burnisher tools to use in the press. I want a tabletop horizontal axis burnisher with a Jacobs chuck. Anyone here know of a brand, or a ball bearing arbor setup I can buy to make my own with? I'm pretty useful in my little fabrication shop and might be able to come up with something. Thanks. Don

Hi, Still have a few motors kicking around the shop - want to make a motorized burnisher out of one of them. What is the best wood to use for the burnishing wheel ? Guess it is something like oak or harder - wood is not really my specialty - so any tips will be appreciated. Have a bud with a wood lathe - but I want to approach him with at least the wood in hand - he likes to moan and groan a lot if has to dip into his own stash - want to avoid that. Greetings Hans

Has anyone ever tried using a wood planer, similar to the one pictured below, to split leather? This machine cuts up to .125 inches and I was thinking that a piece of 8-9oz leather could be attached to a thin metal plate (to raise the leather up to help achieve the desired thickness) with the use of repositionable leather tape and passed through the machine. This would be for larger pieces and would be less expensive than buying some of the machines I've been thinking about purchasing. I'm assuming it would be the same principle but thought I'd reach out and get opinions of others out there in the community who may have had the same idea. Thanks in advance!

So what is the prevailing wisdom out there? Do we shop for a new bed, try to get this one re-surfaced (and if so, how), or what? The clicker has been USED and is still in great shape, except that the bed has been worn down to the point that just about every "click" results in a stuck die. Of course this means that sometimes the piece gets stuck in the die and then possibly stretched out of shape on removal. Operating from the adage that "Money spent on tools doesn't count", where do I go and what do I do? Suggestions

I recently had my stamp made and I'm looking to get an inexpensive press. I recently found this 1 ton arbor press at Harbor Freight. What do you guys think of using this for my stamp? Here's the link: https://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-arbor-press-3552.html

We just bought a 3-phase clicker but it looks like our store only has single phase. Looking for a Phase-a-matic R5 or some similar type of rotary phase converter.

This belonged to my Dad who used it years ago in his boot repair shop. It's sat in my folks garage unused for years now. I am looking to sell it but unsure of value. It's an "Auto-Soler' brand & only has a serial#. Still works fine, just dirty. The only comparible machine I've found was on ebay for $1800(IIRC), but that's not been sold. Seemed high to me for a fairly simple machine. Thanks for any help.

Hey everyone. I'm a small time leather worker, mainly making watch straps. I came upon this splitter on a video and found it on eBay.
