Sewing With The Big Industrials...tips
Trox replied to CDragonworks's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks for the tips! Here is a other solution! An old Adler class 5-27 machine I bought had a 3 phase 3/4 hp clutch motor on it. I living in Norway and I only have single-phase 220v current in my workshop. I had to convert it to single ph or installing three ph current in my workshop. Because of the distance to the fuse box, it would be expensive in cables and no other machine I had needed it. The second problem was the speed, I want it to slow down and be stronger. I called my brother who is an electrical engineers, he gave me a small box called frequency converter it solved both problems. It converts’ the current to single ph and let you adjust the speed. You can even adjust the torque on the motor and read all the data on when it runs. When I want to sew slowly, I set to 10 % of max rpm and 100 % torque and addition you have the clutch control. In addition, I set it up with a regular speed reducer to make the machine even stronger for sewing thick leather, and a potentiometer To adjust the rpm without stopping the machine. I have used this solution for more than tree year, the motor is never warm, and it is very strong. The box I got free but it costs about only a tenth of a servo motor. Trox -
Old Adler 4-4 Heavy Leather Sewing Machine Manual Wanted!
Trox replied to Vaquero1's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Hi Vaquero1 I have the same machine with cylinder arm class 5-27. Like shopatcher says, the class 4 is the forrunner to the class 104 and class 5 is the forrunner to class 105. Class 4 and 5 is the same machine with a flat bed and cylinder arm. The manual is hard to find! I have tried to find it for some years with no luck. My machine also has a moveable jump foot. I have set it up with a speed Reducer and a speed adjustable clutch motor. In addition, I got many different feet’s, throat plates and Accessories. The machine class is very similar to the Singer class 45k, it so alike that you can use the same manual. http://parts.singerco.com/ in this web site is part lists and manuals. Here are some pictures of the 45K http://www.industrialsewmachine.com/webdoc1/used/used-singers/45k.htm look at the 45K-37 same as yours!? The Artisan 45k manual is also on the Internet to find and use, it is similar but the original is very hard to find. The German company http://www.sieck.de/ has some class 4 and 5 for sale, but no parts and manuals. My machine works fine but I have a problem with the bobbin tension screw (see the pictures) the head is worn out and I cannot find a new one anywhere! If you got a spare, please let me know! The Adler class 4/5 is a very nice machine, but part is hard to find. I got a newer Adler 204-64 who is the successor of the Adler 104 machine, that is a good machine, but the older machine is made of better material and has a and has a much nicer sound, it spins like a cat. The problem is parts of course, if I cannot find parts anymore I have to replace it! There are not so many of these machines in the USA because of the Singer 45k, so you will find it mostly in Germany and Europe. If you know of any bobbin parts for it (Adjustment screw 2,3 mm and 13 mm. long, the screws are in inches because of the age) Please let me know! -
Hi! I got a short manual from a German Adler dealer who applies for the Adler class 105/104 with sub classes and a part list. Give me your email and I will send it to you (remember the mail format on an open forum format xxx att xxx dot xxx) I have never seen the 328 CF needles before, what make is it? The needle system 328 is for your machine and the standard needle for timing your machine is 328 LR size 200 (200 is metric = 2 millimeter, it has a left cutting point) But you can of course use any 328 needle on that machine. The thread size decides the needle size. Use new needle on your machine to avoid problems! If you want the manual just let me know! Trox

Hei Tina! MVH trox

Hi alb! It is not polite to use foreign languages in the forum, But I had to tell Rik where to buy the most basic stuff here in Norway. However, I had not done without the help and know how I receive here on Leatherworker net Net. And from Great guy and sewing machine dealer Bob (sewmun) Thanks you all! Do not trust Google as your only source! For example, Norwegian has three extra letters that do not exist in other alphabets. These set completely different meanings in words. Æ Ø and Å. Google do not use them.

Hei!

Trox

Hello! here is one Adler 120-8 for sale in Norway. And model before that, the Adler 20. These machines are not for sewing thin stuff thats for sure! The machine originates from the Singer class 7, You can se the similarity on the Adler class 20. I want to buy one for heavy harness work, but they costs! Similar model are made today by Consew, Gllobal, cowboy sewing machine and more. But you maybe know this from before! But here is some pics. Trox

Adler 5-27 bobbin parts Do anyone know where I can get bobbin parts for my god old Adler class 5-27 sewing machine? I need the bobbin tension adjustment screw. The screw head is worn out and makes it difficult to adjust. I can also use a new tension spring for it, but the old still works. (see pics) I think it is the same bobbin house as in the Singer 45 K and in Adler class 105 and 104 (which is the successor to the class 5 and 4) Adler saddler class has two different diameters on the bob. adjustment screw 2 and 3 millimeter, mine are 2 mm. If anybody has these parts or know where to get it, please let me know. Trox

Hi tat2! here is some info on the 144W http://www.industrialsewmachine.com/webdoc1/used/used-brochures/144w.htm http://www.industrialsewmachine.com/webdoc1/used/used-singers/144w.htm http://www.industrialsewmachine.com/webdoc1/singer/144b.htm and you also find info here http://parts.singerco.com/. This machine class 144w 305 was rewarded a medal for it`s service in the US army during WW2. It was the machine in use for repairing tents, web gear and uniforms. Trox

Hi Ryano! What do you mean get spoiled? I got both the machines you talk about, but in different versions. I got a 144W 305 Long arm model, (30 inches long) with reverse and the same Adler in flatbed version. The Adler Is heavy stitcher and Singer 144 is a upholstery machine made for medium duty use. My 144W 305 are especially made for car upholstery of auto door panels and such. They are not comparable! My Singer is grey color and made in USA so it is far better than the model’s made in the British islands. The Adler’s is 100 times better machines and more expensive. They are collectibles! My Singer is for sale by the way! But I am located in Norway and the machine weights a ton, so the shipping cost are high! PM me for pictures and info! Tat2! I bought the machine for a few years ago to use it on harness work, but it was too weak for that purpose. Since then it has only occupied space, because I’m mostly working on heavy leather. But the machine works well, xlarge bobbin, 25 mm lift, compound feed walking foot, 75 cm space to the right of the needle, very long stitches, high speed with heavy tread (size 8), hand wheel in front and reverse . You will find this machine in production of car panels and upholstery shops. Sorry about the weight, I can sell it for a very good price if you find a way to ship it! Trox

Thanks Bob! I got your PM now and yes I have Paypal. Trox

Hei Bob! MVH! Trox
