  1. I had a customer that wanted that same finish for some pen cases. I used a clear urethane mist spray, let it dry, then another and another. The principle here is to seal the grain with a mist coat so the finish doesn't get absorbed into the leather, but just sits on the surface.
  2. I finish leather for commercial purposes and have discovered over the years that leather needs to be sealed if you don't want the finish rubbing off. We have a "SATRA Finish Rub Fastness Tester" and have produced leather that will take 10,000 rubs. The finish is a base coat of black resin and a top coat of black polyurethane resin, both with crosslinker. It's probably overkill for a knife sheath or belt, but in our business we need durability.
  3. That's definitely rust caused by moisture in the leather. You will need to seal the leather with liquid resin. Not sure what's available in your area but we use it in our business of finishing leather and have for years without issue.
  4. I have white leather resin and clear polyurethane top coat available since we finish leather in our business, it you want to make a 'professional job' Both the white base and clear top are sprayed onto veg.
  5. I have a USM splitter for sale if anyone is interested?
  6. I have had a Fortuna for many years. One of the key things that keeps the blade from sliding forward on the drive wheels is to keep the felt pads on the blade wipers clean. If they get filled with oil and steel dust then the blade will slip on the drive wheels and move forward into the steel bolts that keep it in the machine. Another adjustment on the left wheel controls the angle of the wheel and therefore the force of the blade where it rides on the rear guides. The blade guides can get really hot from the friction and will quickly cause your blade to crack. You need to adjust the angle so the blade doesn't move forward but not so much that you have pressure on the back guides.

  11. I make Ceremonial Sam Browne belts for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Since we don't make every one perfectly, they reject them for minor flaws. If you want to buy one of them and take it apart for the hardware and make a pattern, I can sell you one. It is complete with buckle, claw, 4 dee rings, and sword hook, all gold plated brass.
  12. I have some 2" nickel plated if you're interested.
  13. I have a Randall model and stopped replacing the spring at the top of the thread tube since it kept popping out. A 2 inch X .5 in length of leather with a slit in the middle now sits in the tube and the thread passes thru it and down the tube. The purpose of the spring to lightly hold the thread and the leather does a perfect job. Also, the machine wheel pressure increases when the foot is lifting to all ow the leather to feed for the next stitch. That is probably what you notice when rotating the hand wheel.
