  1. Matter of preference. I usually tie separate buttons.
  2. 8 plait square reins with no core.
  3. A little better pic of the rein knots.
  4. Customer is always right Mike.
  5. Sewing machine core. I do take those things into consideration when taking an order. These reins are longer because the customer doesn't use bridle chains.

    Reins

    Latest rein order, 8 x12.
  7. Very nice gear. I like the rein ends.
  8. Thanks all for the kind words. I haven't tried dyeing any rawhide that color yet.
  9. Thanks. Bruce got a little nervous about having enough string for the accent colors in the nose and heel knots before i ran out of brown.
  10. 1/2" rawhide bosal order I finished last night.
  11. What do U use for a core Peter. Super smooth work and agreed Roo is very nice to braid with.
  12. Not far from them RC, maybe about 60 miles south down Arbon valley between Pocatello and American Falls. Give me a call if your ever coming this way.
  13. RC, i don't use any chemical either just some ashes and elbow grease. Some good discussion here for sure.
  14. Rind knot through the leather for the small ones and glue and a stainless brad on the long ones.
  15. Set of sewing machine belting romals with rawhide trim I finished today.
  16. Probably flank or neck. I cut the biggest circle from the best parts of the side and small circles in the marginal spots for knot string that way if it is really stretchy it is discarded without loosing good hide in the process.
  17. Gives ya traction so the work rolls instead of slides.
  18. To roll I use a brown paper bag on a table with a 1' x 3" x 16" piece of hardwood and take some of a paper bag and wrap it and secure with masking tape. Then roll. When the soap builds up so the work won't roll change your paper.
  19. I have a string cutter on a stand the same height as my bench and use industrial razor blades in it. Where it is the same height as my bench I can put my round on the bench so everything is flat while I cut string, usually cutting a 1/2" string until the round gets smaller then 1/4" string is cut. I run this string through the splitter then coil and let dry for storage, I split it so when it is rewet it tempers evenly. I usually save the backs for cores like Bucksnort.
  20. Looks good, the string is cut even and it looks like good hide with nice color.
  21. That's the stuff or a quality braided nylon but that's getting tough to find.
  22. Nice gear and welcome.
