The core is 1/8" for the headstall and the rein. The romal has a 1/4" core.

Another small piece I finished today while I am staying out of the heat. This ones for sale - $140, up to 18" long. It is 1/8" in diameter.

That awl came from Horseshoe Brand Tools (Jerimiah Watt).

Lime does seem to change the color. I think that any chemical does change the hide, not only the color but the feel.

I stretch and flesh the hide then scrape it dry with a hardwood stick and ashes. I posted that method here previously. Th color is the natural color of the hide.

That style of bosalito is a center tie where a leather piece is used to tie the bosalito to the forelock of the horse to hold in place. Thanks all for the nice comments.

Natural color. I have one more 1/2" bosal body left and that hide is gone.

8 plait and 12 plait rawhide bosalitos.

Those are two different style awls. I use several different sizes depending on the project. U also need a string cutter/beveler and a splitter to level the strings. That would give u a good start.
