  1. Wyeth Saddles were made in Saint Joseph Missouri, during the I think the 30's, 40's, 50's. The company I believe started as a hardware company, but branched out to saddles. I have repaired some in my shop because the Wyeth Family still lives around Saint Joseph. They made several different price range saddles. The National Cowboy Museam has one on display from the 101 ranch with silver, rubies and diamonds. I would agree with Andy they run around 100 to 400 here in Missouri. Ashley
  2. Jon, That is a really nice saddle. Hopefully this fall you will let me come up to your shop and visit. Ashley
  3. Brian, Welcome to the forum. Like others have said I have been watching your site for sometime you do great work. Ashley
  4. Thank you Grumpy, abn, mule Grumpy, I drew up those saddle pockets up while I was building the saddle. I think they turned out real nice so I am going to keep the pattern hanging on the wall. I think the most important thing to learn when building saddles is pattern making. If you can not draw your own patterns then your not going to make it. Ashley
  5. Thank you JW and Bruce Bruce, I think you are talking about the fencing plyer holder. That I made along with the saddle. Ashley
  6. I finally got a saddle finished. It seemed like I could get nothing done, but chaps and small tack items. Sure feels good to get a saddle finished. Feel free to comment. Saddle Tree by Rod Nikkel, Leather by Wickett & Craig, Hardware by Bork Saddlery Hardware, Stirrups by Nettles, and Stamps used by Jeremiah Watt. Ashley
  7. There is a place up here in Saint Joseph MO called FernThatcher. They have over 20 different colors of metalic. PM me and I will give you their phone number. Ashley
  8. What price range are you looking for. Dale Bass out of Amarillo makes some nice conchos. He would probably be the closest to you. Ashley
  9. Im with Greg, if someone brings me a saddle they are probably just to lazy to clean it. I have had saddles come in that have been ridden in a feedlot with no care taken at all. I charge at least $200 to clean a saddle. Most of the time people choose not to have them cleaned. I just tell them it would be cheaper for them to do it and I even will tell them how to do it for free. Ashley
  10. First off thank youto everyone that replied to my question about the seat rig. Next Troy that is a great looking saddle. I have one more question about the seat rig. Do you double the leather under the seat to give more strength to the rigging? Does that make any sense? Ashley
  11. I just wanted to hear some others thoughts on In Seat Rigs. I have never built one, but have had a few people ask me some of the ranch rodeos I attend if I would. I have been thinking on making one to take to the WRCA finals. Has anyone else used this rigging style, if so Pros and Cons? Ashley
  12. Ryan, Very nice saddle, congrats on the win. One of these days I want to come out to California and travel. Maybe Ill meet you some day, along with all the other california makers I know of. I have been told to come out the Santa Margarita ranch roping do you ever go out to that? Ashley
  13. I was wondering on what kinda Tread people use in their sewing machines. Also How does everyone end their stitching, do you back stitch or do you melt the ends? What is the best way. Ashley
  14. Keith, Can you explain why a folded welt is stronger than a single ply? I have always liked the look of the single ply better. However I want to build a saddle that will last longer. What are peoples thoughts on braiding the welt. Ashley
  15. I am glad to hear that he is still alive and kicking. I need to give him a call and go by and see him now that he lives closer to me. Ashley
  16. try this link http://nuggetcompany.com I got some from them in the past.AshleyAlso the person you need to talk to is Greg Gommersal. His woolies are the best I have ever seen made. Ashley
  17. Steve, Great looking saddle. Keep up the good work and the posting of such nice saddles. Ashley
  18. I would love to go to the show, but hopefully I will be knee deep in finishing my new shop for me and the house for my wife. If this snow would ever melt away. Ashley
  19. I will also add that I have some Jeremiah Watt and Wayne Jusyke out of Elko. Ashley
  20. I recieved my buckin roll inserts yesterday. I will try to get a pair made in the next couple of weeks. I think they are going to work out real nice. Ashley
  21. Denise, Are you talking about the SS nails to nail Heel Caps on. I have a place here in Kansas City where I buy them they are 1 inch. Let me know and I will do some checking for you. Ashley
  22. Called up Jeremiah yesterday and ordered a set of the buckin rolls. What he is selling is the bodies, a patten pack, and dvd on how to put them together. I just ordered the bodies and patten pack. Will make up a pair when I get them and post some pics. Ashley
  23. I agree with everyone else very nice saddle. You did a great job on your first one. Ashley
  24. Denise, I would like to make aleast one tree. The only thing is there is not much out there to learn how to do the craft. Anyone can pick up some sort of manual on how-to build a saddle and see what all is involved, before they take the leap. I wouldnt even know where to start in the tree making process. For example what all tools are needed. I have a table saw, radial arm saw, lathe, planner, moulder. What other power tools are needed for tree making? Have tree makers ever thought of putting together a manual on tree making? Ashley
  25. Before the crash I started a list of basic tools that someone would need to build a saddle. If I can get some time I will try to start up the tread again with what I think you would need. I would advise anyone on starting a saddle for their first major project be aware that you are going to have I would say at least $2000.00 invested with materials and basic tools. Some might think that Jeremiah's DVD's are out of reach, but they will save you a lot of head ache. I worked in a saddle shop for 3 yrs, before I built my first saddle. If you do not have any one there to coach you, I would raise the cost of the saddle to $2500, if your as picky as me. On the other hand you can build a saddle with a pocket knife and a hole punch, but are you going to be happy with it, ie" looks and fit" That is just my 2 cents Ashley
