  1. thanks for the reply guys, i always just considered it a pancake style but i stand corrected! =D and no its not a design im looking to sale, but hopefully my Taurus PT-1911 will be in some time this week and i wanted to try and make that style holster for it anyone have any tips as for construction?
  2. no no no. its not the avenger holster let me see if i can try and find a pic of it on here this is one that noahl did thats where i origionally got the inspiration i mean it LOOK like the forward flap gives enough reinforcement for the mouth of the holster but i was just wondering, any input is appreciated
  3. hey guys i have a question. i dont really know what to call the style of pancake holster but i've seen it on here before i call it a two-peice pancake holster its basically a wrap around on the gun portion with a belt loop then a piece sewn onto that with another belt loop, if any of you know what im talking about or have made this style do you need to add some sort of leather reinforcement to the mouth? thanks guys
  4. thanks guys i appreciate the responses! and lobo as for the welted design, i've never really tried that on anything so i guess the key is to practice practice practice till i get good results huh? lol by the way tac, how did you get the texturing on that holster in your first pic? i've never seen that before
  5. well i made my first gun purchase yesterday ( Taurus PT-1911) and its supposed to be at the gun store by ohh monday or tuesday at the latest needless to say its gonna be a LONG wait! and i've already been tinkering with some holster ideas in my head so expect some in short order! and hey gimme some inspiration post some pics of your favorite 1911 holsters you've made! 8. really awesome design and i love the color on the holster!
  9. well its the old adage that you get what you pay for unfortunately but thanks for the input joel. the bad part is im relying on springfield on this just because of the price unfortunately funds arent what i'd like them to be ( hell in this day and age who's are?) i have looked at some of siegels horsehide but unfortunately its just out of my range for now
  10. thanks for the input guys and ferg youre right i didnt think of the horsehide actually having a tighter grain therefore being stiffer im really looking at it for making a summer special style iwb holster for a 1911 im planning to purchase after taxe time and nope! all hand stitching =/ lol but thanks again guys i appreciate it. oh does anyone know how well those horsebutts tool and take dye?
  11. i like it too it gives it a really awesome antique look
  12. hey guys im looking at getting one of the 10 dollar horse butts from springfield after i get a few legal fees taken care of and i think they're about 6-7 oz. i normall use 8-9 oz veg. tan for my projects but my question is do you think the 6-7 oz horsebutt would be alright to double up when making a holster by that i mean gluing the rough sides of the leather together after cutting the pattern the sewing, burnishing forming dying etc? thanks for taking the time to read guys!
  13. holy crap i wish my first attempt had turned out that well! mine will never see the light of day! lol you did a great job! looking forward to see more from ya!
  14. dont give up on the design it reminds me alot of the yaqui slide style holster which is a great holster style i think the lace would be just fine ( IMHO ) but i do have to agree it might take tweaking the patttern just a little but i would personally cover the trigger guard of course, thats just my 2 cents! anyway keep up the work!
  15. nice work! im fixing to start working on a "range holster" for a co-worker and i was thinking of using a design similar to that. nice revolver by the way!

    Lace Maker

does anyone know of a handheld lace maker that looks like the one tandy and springfield sell but instead of being made out of plastic, the handle and body are made out of metal? i've been doing a bit of searching and thus far have found nothing i was wondering if any of you guys knew of something
  18. godddd i wish i could make sheaths like that.....hell i wish i could make knives AND sheaths like that lol great work! love it! and did you use the same finish on the ray skin as you did the leather? just curious
  19. hmm. thats interesting i've never thought to dye in a zip lock bag. i'll have to try that out
  20. looks great to me! the only thing i see that i would chance ( and this is JUST my opinion because they look fairly secure) is i'd make the snap straps a little wider granted its hard to judge the width in the pic ( especially with my eyesight, its bad im only 22 but have horrible eyes lol ) but they look just a little thin. like i saidt hough looks great andits a very cool and interesting design idea hope to see more from you!
