  2. Hey thats a good idea. Thanks Ellen
  3. I have a friend who plays the tuba in the air force band and he wanted me to make him a tuba strap. I got it finished and gave it to my friend. He loved it!He had asked for cartoon characters on it, which I was able to do and they turned out pretty decent. Sorry I dont have a pict of it. I did get picts with my new phone but don't have a usb cord to transfer them to my computer yet. Anyway, my friend wants to pay me for the strap and I am at a loss as to what to tell him. It was a major learning experience for me so it did take a lot of time but I have no idea of the going rate for such a thing. Thanks for any thoughts you all might have Ellen

  5. silly question but why would someone need a whip on their belt?
  6. fortunately the mini grinder has a dial like a dimmer switch it starts at 0 and goes up to 10000. I ended up drilling the hole on my plastic slicker to make it bigger then I hammered it onto the pin u put the grinding wheel on...kinda goofy but it works for now...I ordered a flex shaft attachment too. It is a cord u attach to the grinder that has a small grinder on the end of it...havent gotten it yet though.
  7. Hi all, I bought a 3" mini bench grinder and have no idea what attachments I need to get for it for burnishing. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Ellen
  8. Thanks, Paul :D I am a sponge for information...hehe...I appreciate you taking the time to respond and will have more questions in the next few weeks. I have to make a couple dog collars this weekend but am really looking forward to starting on the mocs. I just happen to have a nice sized chunk of chrome tanned leather left over from a laptop case I made that should work. What kind of leather did u use around the top edge of the slippers? and what did you line them with? suede? Is veg tanned leather too stiff for mocs? Ellen
  9. Hi all, I was inspired to try and make some mocs by the ones in the gallery right now. I have some 'how to' questions What kind of leather is good for mocs? What do I put on the bottom so they are not too slippery if I use cowhide? Do I have to use suede? Thanks! I am constantly scouring this site for information and appreciate all you craftmasters have to say!
  10. Thanks a bunch I will try the eraser first
  11. Hi All, While I was glueing suede type backing onto a strap I got some on the part that shows. Is there any way to remove it? It is latex based. Thanks! Ellen
  12. Cool. Thx :D I did find some different kinds on EBAY finally. They were kinda pricey though. I searched under jeans rivet or buttons. They ran about 6 for $3.
  13. Wow...your hats are amazing.
  14. Thanks a bunch you guys. I really appreciate your suggestions. Ellen
  15. Thank you, Kate that is a huge help. I've never worked with deerskin, just veg tan. And she did say something about the hand rest too. What universities did you play at? My friend went to Indiana. Ellen
  16. ok she saw it and after she stopped laughing...she said nope that's not it. hehe
  17. Holy CRAP! you guys never cease to amaze me! am sending her the picture now to find out. Ellen
  18. I may have found my own niche in leatherworking lol I made a case for a musician friends "bones". She plays them in an irish pub band and now she would like me to make a "Corsett" for her Euphonium that she plays in the airforce band. As she describes it, it would be a wrap for the lower portion of the instrument to protect it from scratches or damage. Has anyone heard of such a thing? I included a picture of the bones case I did. It is still a bit wet but you get the idea. Thanks for your thoughts!
  19. I really like the colors you use on your stuff...very pretty designs too
