  2. that's 'Isaac Newton Van Nuys' to you!.... even though i live in the "General Moses Hazeltine Sherman' development... (sherman oaks...)... eric
  3. it looks cool... are you going to leave it that way (color) or are you going to dye it black (or vinegaroon) it? just curious... but it looks cool the way it is... eric
  4. anyone else here have zny experience with the fishy stuff? i was going to buy a few 'pelts' (or would that me 'smelts'? hehehe...) to play with... and just wanted to know if there was anything i had to keep n eye out for when working with it... thanks... eric
  5. just tried the frog tape, and it worked... while i may not be 'cheap' is does make me cringe at the reg price of the frog tape... so... when i found it at walmart in their blow-out bin for $2 a roll in it's plastic container... i thought it was a no-brainer, bought a few rolls to try it, and it works on leather (as well as wood trim), as well as masking on a rosewood... it blocked out the lacquer from getting under it with all of the pores in the rosewood.. so... atleast from my experience (so far...) it does work... just wanted to let anyone who wanted to try it, that they can get it on the cheaper side if they look... eric
  6. thsnkds for the reply... i know what you mean about buffalo/chrome... i made myself a veg-tan backed/buffalo front guitar strap for myself, and it was a true pain to burnish the top half of the edge, i finally i gave up, and just went with a tinted acrylic for the 'edge coating'... good luck with the rest of the work... what you've done so far is cool... eric
  7. on the tandy site, it's called 'the table-top lace cutter'... here's the link..., it's even on sale 'til the end of the month... tandy lace cutter link, $30.00 - $58.00... siegal listing for it as a 'jerry stripper', and it's $30 same thing at springfield, just normal price, $48.00... hope this helps... eric
  8. that's a very cool looking rig, congrats on the new build!... i do have a question... is that buffalo for the belt? or did is it a finish manipulation? just curious... thanks... eric
  9. i'm not sure about the tandy stuff, as i'm in california, and am always kinda leery about the 'newew-lower-voc-better-for-you-' stuff that keeps coming out (well nolt always, i guess, but def. when it comes to glues/contact cement at least), i've used the dap/weldwood contact cement for quite a while, you can still get it just about any hardware store, heck, even wallymart had it in the 3oz brown plastic bottles, and 16oz cans as of last night... as i remember, the pint can was like $5 or 6 bucks... still has all of the lovely toluene/acetone/hexane/etc... in it... ...good luck on the hunt... eric
  10. wow! i'm impressed if for nothing else the engineering and machining of the tool... made me go... "why dont i have one of those..." kind of things... ohh well, back to the drawing boards... eric
  11. wow!!! your here too? congrats and welcome to the board... i've followed your braiding stuff for a while on a few other places... what sort of stuff brings you towards leather work? just curious... anyway... hello... and good luck... eric
  12. that really is cool looking, and atleast for me, inspirational... man... now i've got even more ideas that are currently beyond my abilities... thanks... hehehe... eric
  13. love the look of the seat. i do have one question about the color, did you use a black dye thinned-out as a wash for the grey, or was it a grey dye? all of the cool looking seats on this site make me want to get a cycle... just so i can make the accessories.... hehehehe... eric
  14. very cool looking!... love the humongo slab too! eric

cool pouch. if i may ask, what type of watch is it for? belt pouch for a pocket? or a storage/transit/presentation pouch for a wrist? just curious... eric
  16. welcome aboard matey!!! eric
  17. i'm still new and working this out (tooling-wise, more use to leaving stuff plain or using an exotic for a top layer), but do you prefer the blue tape over using packing tape or rubber cement/cardstock method? and why? just curious... thanks for the help. take care. eric
  18. congrats and welcome home... the stuff looks cool... love the vinegar black... did you line the stuff? or leave it in the 'raw' and burnish the back/insides? just curious... i've only recently been a convert to making my own 'home brew' rather than using the fiebing's route... and still trying to work out the kinks... anyway... the holster and mag look well made... take care... eric
  19. pacoima? coolness... uuhhhm m... sherman oaks here... eric
  20. i've made straps, belts, braclets, etc before, but i am a newbie to tooling, and i just wanted to thank you for showing the matting tool... i have always wondered, i've seen that sort-of finish before, i knew how to do the dye part(s), and never put 2+2 together for some reason about the background (i always thought it was a leather texture instead)... and when you mentioned it, it was the proverbial light bulb/'i could've had a v8 moment' that happened... so.... thank you... take care... eric
  21. that's really cool! thank you for posting the pix for inspiration... eric
  22. i cant believe i replied to a two years old thread again... oh well... all of the info/contents are still relevant... eric
  23. or you could try using vinegar black/vinegaroon to 'make' the project black in place of the usual dye process... take care, and good luck...
  24. here's an additional source... kevlar nomex nomex, kevlar in big boy sizes... man... i cant believe i just replied to a 3yr old thread, thread... jeeeeeeeeeeez.... info is still good though... eric
  25. i've found this place that has both kevlar & spectra thread... not the correct size for hand stitching, but it can be doubled ,triple, quadrupled-up etc... anyway... good luck eric kevlar spectra
