  1. If you're on Etsy and Facebook and your items are not selling, then you're doing something wrong. If you work on improving your pictures and your SEO, it will help tremendously. Try re-writing your descriptions and make sure your pricing is not outrageous. Make sure you are interacting with people.....especially on Facebook.......in otherwords, don't just post a photo and hope that people will "Like" it........write something that will get people to interact or comment (ie. "What looks better......purple or yellow leather?" or telling them to "Like" the photo if the agree or "Comment" on the photo if they disagree). Also, Facebook is becoming less popular and things like Instagram, Twitter, and Vine are becoming more popular.....since they're all free, you should definitely be on them. And of course, don't forget Pinterest and Wanelo!!!
  2. I get alot of people who order multiple sizes.....think one size for wallets and a bigger size for saddles. I even get some people that order REALLY big ones.....think Coach purses.........
  3. I just saw that Home Depot is now carrying the product called "Neverwet" made by Rustoleum......you can spray it on almost anything and it will repel almost any liquid. You can see a video demo on Home Depot's website. Has anyone tried it on leather? I can see ALOT of applications for it.......especially when it comes to dies and paints......
  4. I don't recommend drilling a hole in the ram at all. I work with a lot of large and odd shaped stamps (up to 10-12" wide sometimes) and IMHO you are better off not attaching the die to the ram. I use a 1/2" thick piece of acrylic as my "base", then I simply lay the leather on top of the acrylic, then I position the stamp exactly where I want it on the leather, then "press" multiple times, if necessary. As an example, I've attached a drawing of an oval die with eight ram impressions. I simply slide the acrylic (without touching the leather or the die) to position the die under the ram. With this technique, the die is perfectly placed on the leather, and you get a deep and even impression for the entire image. And even when the die is 4" wide or bigger, it still takes less than one minute to press it 8-10 times.
  5. I had someone ask me to make them a Championship Belt with their logo on it.......so I figured, what the heck, why not. It LOOKS simple enough....... The finished belt is 50" wide and 12" tall in the middle. I just used Marine Corp black dye and resolene as the finish. I made three gold metallic plastic pieces with the logo and attached them to the leather with a pretty strong 3M adhesive (the belt is for show, it's not meant to be worn daily). I designed it by myself based upon the belts other people make/sell. And I drew the pattern by myself. It didn't print out very correctly, but I was able to get everything liked up correctly after printing it off a few times. Cutting it out smoothly was a challenge, and I only made a few mistakes. The edge beveling didn't come out very well. Staining wasn't very difficult since it was black, but the resolene finish didn't come out very well. The eight snaps were easy to do, and I was happy that they I was able to get them all lined up correctly. The biggest pain was the studs outlining the piece......they took FOREVER to put in.....there are over 200. But overall, I was happy with how it came out. Let me know what you think. Here are some pictures:
  6. Ugh......not what I wanted to hear but it's what I expected. Yes, the pink is dye.
  7. I was using the "block dye" technique but managed to get black dye inside my embossed letters......is there any way to fix this? I'm assuming I can't remove black dye......
  8. I'm in CNY......but NOT the person to learn from!!!
  9. Just got my copy of Saddlers Journal and noticed a big ad for Tandy on the back for custom logo stamps (1.25" x 1.25") for $200.......on sale for $150!!! And only an 8 week turnaround. I think that I, along with the 3 or 4 other members on here that make custom stamps, wouldn't be in business long if we charged that much and took that long...... Thanks for making us look good Tandy!
  10. I agree with RosiArt......based on the burn on the unfinished one.....they are definitely lasercut. I guess my question is......how did they attach them? Would glue really be strong enough to hold them?
  11. My guess is that they were embossed.......the "15" "3" and "KFD" were clearly stitched on.....but there is no stitching on anything else that I can see. The only one that has me puzzled is the "ENG" and "INE"......
  12. Do you have a picture of the machine or a name and address for the Amish guy? I'm in NY......maybe I'm close to him.
  13. Hi Olive, It all comes down to your artwork......please feel free to e-mail me your design. I just used a one ton arbor press. Thanks Steve
  14. Thanks Cyber! Here is a picture of a new one I made this week that I'm really happy with.
  15. Cyber.......it's not free, so it's probably not for you......but Quickbooks is excellent and it does offer inventory management and enterprise solutions including vendor management, which is what Major said he needed. Look here for more info: http://enterprisesuite.intuit.com/products/enterprise-solutions/?qbes_info-b=features#qbes_info-b_tabs
  16. I just finished making this new design of a buck deer head with antlers in front of a mountain scene. Although the size is approximately 3.25" wide, it can be made any size. Here is the listing in my shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/129031372/deer-scene-number-220-leather-embossing?ref=shop_home_active
  17. Just finished making a 9" wide embossing plate of a pair of wings for one of my customers.....unfortunately, I don't have a press big enough to use it!!! That's why some impressions were on the bottom.
  18. For some reason I thought small stamp sets were readily available......but I guess just not under 1/4" tall. Smaller than 1/4" is not problem......just not with this technique. Here is one of my free Made in the USA stamps that is only 0.5" wide......the height is .08" or about 5/64".
  19. Sounds good.......if you need font ideas, you can go to a website like Dafont.com and type in your text and see what it looks like in thousands of different fonts.
  20. Hi Cheryl......I really like that concept.....and it might actually be easy enough for me to make!!!! Can you give me some details about how you assembled it? Is there some type of hard backer that you attached the leather to? Thanks! Steve
  21. I just added some new listings to my shop for low cost acrylic stamp sets. Here is a link to one of the listings: https://www.etsy.com/listing/128032078/alphabet-stamp-sets-any-font-12-or-34?ref=shop_home_active And here are a few pictures showing various sizes and fonts. If you have any questions, please feel free to send an e-mail to me at: CustomMadeStuff@gmail.com
  22. Gunter, there are a few ways you can do it. Probably the easiest way is to just measure your foot instead of worrying about shoe sizes. Assuming your foot is 8" from toe to heal, then just draw a box that is 8" tall and put it over the pattern and keep resizing the pattern until it fits inside the box. The second way to do it is to draw an outline around the pattern, then power clip the pattern into the outline and then you can resize it easily. I'm attaching pictures of both ideas.
