Lanona Shoe Co. - Intro
EmbossingDieCompany replied to lanonashoe's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Welcome Ben! Those are some nice shoes! -
I was given a huge box of scraps (oil tanned leather) from a customer that makes leather shoes......I couldn't use it, so I posted it "For Sale" on here under the Marketplace section.....Items for Sale......Leather & Lace. I offered it for free to anyone that would pay for shipping using USPS flat rate boxes and jammed as much as I could into each box. Those "scraps" are perfect for beginners or those who want to test dyes or cutting or sewing, etc.

That's a great idea! I make acrylic ones if the design is basic.......but they are definitely not for production work.

I had to make a whole bunch of 1/2" wide embossing dies that say "2014" for a customer and I ended up making more than I needed to. So I have 8 extra ones that instead of throwing out, I thought that I would offer for free to anyone that wants one. I'm attaching a picture of one. If you would like one, please e-mail me at: CustomMadeStuff@gmail.com

Finding the right font is important......I would suggest that you go to a website like Dafont.com.......you can type in "Magpie" and see it in hundreds of different fonts. It's a good place to start.

Small Scale Wood/metal Fabricator For Prototype
EmbossingDieCompany replied to citrusvanilla's topic in Help Wanted
I can make the wood part for you with no problem. Simply e-mail me at: CustomMadeStuff@gmail.com -
I've done it with small marquetry pieces......the wood accepts the dye very well. The issue you have to be aware of is the clearcoat finishing. Brushing on polyurethane will drag one dyed piece onto another......for example, if you have a black dyed piece next to a yellow dyed piece, when you brush on the poly, the black will bleed into the yellow. To correct this, you should put a thin coat of poly on each color first, before putting them next to each other (if that makes sense).

For all you wannabe inventors, check out this website......one of the products they sell is a leather case that holds cash/credit cards that attaches to an iPhone case.....I thought it was a good idea and that some people here might want to make one for themselves: http://www.quirky.com/products/448-Keeper-stick-on-wallet
