  1. Thanks to everyone that chimed in. Changed a couple at the request of a local shop I do a lot of business with. Added some that were recommended and dropped the smaller pocket guns. George
  2. Jake, not sure, this the amount John gave me to qualify for dealer. There may be a distributor price, you'd have to ask him.
  3. Hey Jake, min. order to qualify is $1000, or about 28 handguns. Check out RMB's website, he has great prices and does free shipping on 12 or more blue guns. Haven't ordered yet but I'm thinking maybe save some up front money and get some from RMB. Have to think it over tonight.
  4. Decided last week that in order to get more business and get a faster turn around for buyers that I needed to bite the bullet and order enough to qualify for Ring's min. dealer order. I don't mind so much reinvesting once again in my business, it's more about not wanting to spend the money needlessly and have a bunch of duplicate guns. I mainly make concealed carry holsters, shoulder rigs, pancakes, Avengers and the such. Most are formed and detailed so having two models of a weapon when all I need is one would be wasteful to me at this stage of my business. Below is my list compiled by reading here and on the internet as well as consulting local dealers. If you have the time to look it over and help me avoid any overlap or duplicate models as well as any models I have not included it would be Super-Duper- Incredible- Awesome helpful. I plan on placing the order on Monday. 5. After reading the article I read the author's little bio. I lived in Boulder for about 6 months and could not move fast enough. Great city with a lot of things going for it, but it is one of the most liberal places I have ever hung my hat. Probably why she was so excited about saving all those hamburgers on the hoof. Or, maybe it's more about all those cow-farts messing up the climate. That being said, it would be nice to just go to the machine, punch in my requirements and bingo I have what I want. Buck Rogers would be so proud! Of course it may be too expensive for me to buy in this lifetime...guess I'll save a cow tonight and eat some pork instead. Hey what about all those lil' pigs that need saving? How about some lab grown pigskin too.
  6. That's the kicker, the backside is great on both the double and single shoulder, but no better than the W&C when split down from a 10-12 ounce side. Made an avenger with the HO. took twice as long to cut, had to dye it, then it turned in to concrete and it split at the front belt tunnel punch out, never had that happen before. I'm not much of a dyer so getting the color I wanted did not happen. As I wrote earlier, I'm sticking with the W&C right now until I can find something better. George
  7. Hey Jake, received my order from Springfield leather Friday. Opened it up yesterday and I do not have great news to give you. The #1 import has 31 small and a couple large cuts in the finish side and unfortunately they seem to be spread ot over 2/3 of the double shoulder. I'm figuring about 25 - 30% waist cutting around them. The invoice was noted "clean" and "holster maker", in my humble opinion it is not. It is "clean" no dirt anywhere, but not clean or free of blemished and scars. The HO was better with only one area not usable. Plus I now have to dye every piece and I am not set up with a sprayer or spray room. I figured that I lose between 25 -30% of an average special hide from W&C with the belly and blemishes so this double shoulder is about the same and makes it much more expensive for something that will require more work and time. I think I will just bite the bullet on this one and deal with the problems of W&C. Hope this helps, George
  8. Hey Jake, have not gotten the shoulders yet and only ordered small items a couple of times. But, those items including some seat leather were very good and the people I dealt with have always been very helpful. I ordered the #1 import double shoulder, I would prefer to stay American but it is getting harder and harder to deal with US tanneries and receive good sides. I will let you know what it looks like when I receive it. And because it is mostly for holsters, I ordered a single shoulder of the HO. for $29 how could I not try it. More than likely it will arrive on Monday and I'll post what it is like. I have ordered from Weaver before but have always gotten crappy leather, just recently some suede for shoulder rig harness straps, it was dirty with marker marks on it. I can probably use about half of it. George
  9. Just ordered a double shoulder, #1 grade and one of HO single shoulder from Springfield . They have been good to me in the past so I figured I would give them a try. I'm hoping the waste compared to a whole side of W&C will be less.
  10. I am going to need a few more sides soon and I sure as heck cannot wait that long. That said my last order came in 2 shipments, the standard shipped now and the split sides when completed. Took only 2 weeks in between. I have been looking for alternate suppliers but it's been hit and miss. If anyone comes up with any please let me know. George B.
  11. My Nephew who builds websites and runs a home brew business just finished my new website. Now I know why I'm old, I could never have done the job on it he did. It links to my ETSY store for purchase of finished products where I can take payments easily. Still some fine tuning we need to do but otherwise I am happy with the outcome. If you would like to check it out and give any feedback I can pass on to him to improve it please do. www.gbleatherco.com
  12. Thank you for both the help and the compliment. The customer liked it also and is coming out for a fitting on a shoulder rig for his Dessert Eagle. He has had to return his El Paso rig about 3 times, front sight keeps tearing the suede lining.
  13. Hello, what style holsters are you looking for? Pancake, avenger, IWB, etc.? I have been making holsters for a couple of gun shops in Clarksville, TN and would be interested depending on the details and the type of holster at that price range. I'll give you a call next Monday.
  14. Hey All, finally got it. Just finished applying some Sdikmores cream so it's kinda dark around the edges. Many thanks to Renegadelizaed for taking the time to draw out what I was missing. Customer wanted it lined so I used two layers of 5 ounce W&C russet with a 7 ounce throat, man was it a bear to form and detail. Once again, thanks to everyone who offered advice. George
  15. Thank you so very much Renegadelizard. That is exactly what I needed to see, I just could not wrap my head around it before. Extending the ear out with the slot makes a lot of sense, so simple it makes me feel kinda stupid. Once again, thank you, George
  16. Thanks Shooter, I hope some one will. I guess my big question is...if I drop the slot behind the trigger down how will it effect the retention and stability of the revolver. I mean, if I have less trigger guard to work with won't it make the retention less? Thanks
  17. I did one early in my holster making for one with a scope, went through a lot of poster board. I'll check to see if I still have the pattern. Getting the scope into the mix was the hard part for me. The customer liked it but I would have done it differently now that I have more experience.
  18. I searched the forum and cannot find any information on making an Avenger holster for a revolver and getting it to work. I figured the automatics out and have been cranking them out pretty regular, but the revolver has got me about ready to NEVER do one again. If this wasn't for a good customer I would have given up already and just taken whatever time I needed to perfect my holster. Unfortunately he only comes to my area every couple of months and is expecting to pick up this holster this Saturday morning. I have done 2 of them and the first was horrible, the second has good retention but I cannot get the forward cant figured out and the belt tunnel pulled towards the trigger and sticks out, making it impossible to wear concealed. I think I can figure out how much forward to move the tunnel but I cannot get a 15 degree forward cant without giving up retention. I need help on this holster for this 6 shot Taurus 44 mag revolver. Thanks
  19. Thanks to All that responded, now I don't feel so stupid. To update. He called again and just cannot understand why I don't want to do his order. I put it to him as simply as I could. "Without a clear idea of what he wants I cannot make it and right now I am so busy I do not have time to do research or a lot of face to face time with him unless he wants to pay me for the time." Now he wants "Billy The Kid", even though there is not a clear consensus on exactly what the rig he used looked like, so far I have found 3 that all claim to be exact and all 3 are different. I left it at, "you bring me a pic of what you want, we'll both sign it, no changes, pay up front and no refunds if you change your mind". Haven't heard anything since.
  20. Long story short... Customer wants a western rig and 2 CCW holsters, one for a Colt SAA clone. I've talked to him face to face once and on the phone twice and still do not have any idea exactly what he wants. Started John Wayne and now it's Clint Eastwood, I think. He informed me last night that he wants pics sent to him so he can "proof it" as I go. Say What? I don't have the time to hold his hand through the entire process as I have other gun leather items to make, a saddle to build and another to restore. Am I just being stupid and turning down money for the wrong reasons? Has any one else dealt with a customer like this? And better yet, how did it turn out at the end? I did leave it open kind of, I told him if he could get me some pics of what he was after I could build it. Thanks for any advice on this one. George
  21. Most of the ones I get orders for are the snap on type. Normally I stitch the loops on, but I have to make a set for a customer for the S&W 500 mag this weekend. I will use the loop through the back on these, they stick out a little farther but I feel will be more secure for the larger cartridges.
  22. Thanks, I'll more than likely take out leather behind the silver dollar so it looks like it lays flat. Not sure how the stitching order is going to come out, but that's what prototypes are for. Here's a pic of the loops in the back.
