Skulls & Roses On A Western Rig?
Josh Ashman replied to Josh Ashman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks Dwight & Bobby! Floral bags for a Harley would be a cool project... -
It's what they wanted so I gave it my best shot. 8 oz with a 4 oz liner on the main belt and billet, 8 oz for the buckle chape, 4 oz on the loops and 8 oz with a 6 oz liner for the hoster, all HO. Finished with a coat of NF oil then Fiebings liquid acrylic antique washed off pretty heavily, a light coat of M&G cut 50/50 with water and then wiped down with glycerin saddle soap to make it feel and smell like gunleather instead of a clean floor. It's built for a 3-1/2" Cimarron Thunderer but it has my 5-1/2" SAA in it for the pictures. Thanks for looking, Josh

Here's a full set for a 5" 1911 including a OWB pancake, double mag pouch and belt. All of it is 2 layers of 8 oz HO, Fiebings black pro oil and 277 thread. Thanks for looking, Josh

Trading Work (Uncensored Photo)
Josh Ashman replied to Frank's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Good stuff all around Frank, I like the belt, the sign and the trade! Best regards, Josh -
I made this belt for a friends birthday present. It's a little more "gift" than I'd typically give but the weather was terrible and I wasn't going to run into town for a present so I made this instead. It's an old craftool stamp and 8 oz HO inside and out. the dye job is a little medium brown Fiebings mixed with NF oil and applied with a scrap of shearling. Thanks for looking, Josh

2 Gun Buscadero
Josh Ashman replied to Josh Ashman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you all! Robert, I am a huge fan of the Carlos border. It looks good and is pretty easy to get done. Bobby, here is my process on this; After the tooling is done and it's dry; 1) a decent coat of neatsfoot oil, 2) black Fiebings liquid acrylic antique applied with a scrap of shearling then wiped off with a damp paper towel a few minutes after applying, 3) 50/50 mop & glo and water applied with a scrap of shearling trimmed very short, 4) put the spots on, sew the holster main seams and assemble the belt, 5) fold the holsters through the slots in the belt and the Mexican loops and 6) give everything a nice wipe down with glycerin saddle soap using a scrap of shearling. I let everything dry as best I can between steps usually at least 8 hours although 24 would probably be better. I use liquid glycerin soap (Leather New or something comparable) but a bar works just as good. Best regards, Josh -

2 Gun Buscadero
Josh Ashman replied to Josh Ashman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks Dwight! I've always scoffed at buscadero rigs but after making this one I decided I might need one as a wall hanger, they are kinda cool even if not very practical. Good luck if you decide to make a Roy Rogers/Lone Ranger rig, post pictures if it happens and I'll do the same. Best regards, Josh -
This is a little "Hollywood" for my tastes but I was super happy with how it turned out. Double drop buscadero in antique black with nickel spots. It'll look better with the bright stainless Ruger Vaquero's that the customer will put in it but Tina and I's Uberti's don't look to shabby. Thanks for lookin' and have a great Friday!

Holster Research
Josh Ashman replied to Pounder's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Camano answered your questions very well. All I thought to add is that a properly done hand stitching job is far better looking and more "perfect" than any machine stitch. Good luck Pounder! Josh -
That looks really nice CW! Great job! Josh

Surprise For My Brother-In-Law
Josh Ashman replied to Ran's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nice job on the belt Ran! If you're cutting your blanks with a utility knife I suggest you give a strap cutter a try. For around $20 you'd be amazed at the amount of time you can save. Best regards, Josh -
Harley, Keep the holster loop tight on the belt. This will make it so the holster doesn't move around and also keep it from pulling up with the pistol when you draw. I've made several wild bunch type rigs with Mexican loop holsters that function very well. I try to make it so the belt will barely fit through the holster and everything stays in place just like you'd want. Good luck, Josh
