  1. Great work Ron, thank you for sharing it!
  2. No worries Frank, I'm glad you posted yours. I have an order for another one and I'm thinking about trying some scallops on the edges like you did. That looks super sharp!
  3. That's a fine start Dan, good job! The only thing I'd do different on the design would be to move the "loop" up to where the trigger guard ties in. As for the fit and finish, you did well for a newbie. Even stitching with the awl stabs not quite so steep and a more finished edge are things you could work on, but they are things all of us continually work on Enjoy the new addiction, er, um hobby... Josh
  4. Thanks Samalan and Bobby! I took your advice from back when and finally used a stud instead of a snap Bobby and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Thanks for giving sound advice!
  5. Thanks folks, I appreciate the kind words on the headstalls and the concern for my horses Dirtclod! Best regards, Josh
  6. Here are two headstalls I buttoned up this week. I'm pretty happy how they turned out. Thanks for looking, Josh
  7. Here are a couple of Mexican loop bowie knife sheathes that I recently built. Both are 10/11 HO from SLC, the darker one is finished with Fiebings liquid black antique and topped with M&G mixed 50/50 with water and the other is 2 coats of NF oil with some sun in-between and saddle soap. I was happy with how they both turned out and I wish that coffin handled Damascus bowie was mine! Thanks for looking, Josh
  8. I've done a little raw hide work and my experience It's better to thoroughly soak it then let it dry back out to the perfect working condition. Short soaking times have never done me any good. I'd soak it overnight then let it sit for an hour or two until it was easily flexible but not "noodle" like. Once it was right in the rawhide "sweet spot" I'd put it all together then let it dry for several days. Good luck, let us know how it turns out! Best regards, Josh
  9. I'm afraid I'm still stuck at #3 Billy. I'd sure like to get another one built, I just need to find that magic intersection of time and money ! In the meantime I sure appreciate you, CWR and the others posting your new ones! Best regards, Josh
  10. That's a really good looking saddle Billy! thanks for showing it. Best regards, Josh
  11. That looks great, really a nice job! Best regards, Josh
  12. That's a super classy set up Rob, great job on both the leatherwork and the pictures!! Best regards, Josh
  13. Nice job on the sheath Fredo! Not too sure about the Marine medic through, unless he meant he was a Navy Corpsman. Even the most gung-ho corpsman I ran into didn't claim to be Marines though.... Best regards, Josh
  14. Thanks Red Cent & Texas Jack! Modad2010 - that is 277 top and bottom. It's probably just the picture making them look bigger. Thank you! Best regards, Josh
  15. Thanks everybody, I appreciate the kind words! Roster - Class 4 Cobra, I've only had it since last fall but I really like it.
  16. 8 oz HO and Fiebings dye. I got the color by mixing British Tan, Oxblood some Black and then diluting it with alcohol. finished with M&G cut 50/50 with water and a little saddle soap once that was dry so it smelled like leather not a waxed floor Thanks for looking, Josh
  17. It seems to me like it might be easier to assemble it with flat wet rawhide and your leather pieces tooled, dyed and ready to go. Then you could glue, fold and stich then set is aside to dry for a day or two. I'm sure the way you have figured will work well too but it seems working the leather around the pre-molded rawhide would be a nuisance. Good luck, hopefully it does well for you. Josh
