Very nice work!! Where did you get the buckle from?
  6. Thank you, for your reply's . This is what is so great about Leather worker .net. A couple months ago I probably would have bought those machines and had to find out about them the hard way. I sure wish I had this kind of help and knowledge base for the last 40 years.... With the money you guys just saved me I will join the contributing members list. Thanks again I really appreciate your help.
  7. I am looking for a machine to sew chaps and lighter leather and found these machines for sale but I don't know a thing about them. One is a Singer 307 G 2 , one is a Union Special 63400 KB , one is a similar Union Special but I didn't see a number on it. The lady who had them for sale could not be there at the time so had her dad show them to me. He did not know how to thread them so I did not see them actually sew anything. He said Singer ran fine but frayed the thread. Both Union machines originally ran on three phase power, the one that I didn't have a number had been changed to run on a smaller electric motor witch he said ran good but would not do the car upholstery with the foam in between that they needed it to do and she had never used the other union. The prices were $50.00, $150.00, 250.00. Any advise would be much appreciated for when I go back to look at them to see if they will sew.
  8. Hi I cannot get any of the help topics to open. I was trying to find out about becoming a registered member. Name: Mark UserName: mcn IP Address: 209.91.107.249 Email Address: mcn2012@gmail.com
  9. If you look on Utube "How to make a leather holster" there's a really good demo of how he airbrushes.
  10. Hi When I try to open the help topics nothing happens. I was trying to find out the Registration benefits. Name: Mark UserName: mcn IP Address: 209.91.107.252 Email Address: mcn2012@gmail.com
  11. The ones I made are 39 inches long, the strap part is 1 1/4 inches so uses 1 1/4 buckle. The wide part where they flare out for the strap slots is 2 1/2 inches. 5 from buckle bar to center of first slot, 5 inches between slots center to center. I only use these on horses that have already been hobble broke. Hope this helps if you need more PM me and I could try to send you the pattern. The Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal Mar/April 2006 has a good section on hobble making. I think you can still buy back issues.
  12. Very nice. Did you make the oak leave pattern your self?
  13. Gave Caledon a call and they can't help me out with the hardware but they are the only supplier of Herman Oak leather so I will be getting some of that. Thanks
  14. I bought a machine a a couple months ago so I am still pretty new to machine sewing. There seems to be lots of lint or thread dust. Is this normal? I am using Linhanyl thread that came with the machine.
  15. I have an account with Weaver but some of the things I would like to order can only be bought by the pound or 1000 pieces and Weavers is the only place I have found them. I will not live long enough to need 1000 brass loop staples or a pound of brass tacks in each size.I live in Alberta so adding shipping and brokerage fees to these makes it worse. Is there anyone that would sell some of these things in smaller quantities.
  16. You could buy shorter screws for the concho and screw it in really tight or try some JB weld and make points on the back
  17. Check the conchos you are going to use, usually the ones that are not round or are supposed to have a "top" side will have little points on the back that stop them from spinning.
  18. Thanks Mike That not only helped but gave me some ideas for more projects
  19. very nice. Makes me want to get back into black powder.
  20. Does anyone know if there is somewhere to buy replica pistols that could be used for holster making. Or any other ideas that might work. In Canada I cannot legally have someone Else's firearm in my possession.
  21. It looks like one side of a set of hames. Hames are what hold the harness to the collar. I have never seen any like that though so your guess is as good as mine.
  22. Thanks for the replys I was worried that the lining would wrinkle or not allow the tooled side to be molded properly if I tried that. Great to have access all this experience now adays.
  23. Hi I am going to start making my first set of holsters. They are for mounted shooting and the opening of the holster is flared out or molded so it is easier to re holster. I could use some help with the adding of a lining leather to a molded holster.
  24. Thanks I will Try it. I can't believe I have never heard of this before finding this site.
  25. Would someone please explain how and why to use a glass leather slicker. I have read the forums here and have found enough to realize this is a step I should be doing but not a lot of detail.
