  1. I think the ovals simulate stretching the skin at the stitch points. you could wet form these, by inserting a wooden dowell between the stitches and when the leather dries your done
  2. I have 2 vintage brass pro knives and 2 aluminum body pro knives and I have Barry King blades. I bought the new small Craftool Pro just because it was on sale. I was impressed, yes by a Tandy tool!. It is smooth, I like the weight, and my blade was perfect straight out of the box.
  3. That grain pattern on veg tanned leather is called "Milled" by Tandy its in the New Years special flyer Tandy # 9048-70
  4. I have an aluminum Boss. I have used it for a couple of years now, and it sews well. A lot of people prefer the cast iron models because the weight makes them more stable and they operate more smoothly. I would trade my newer aluminum model for an older cast one anyday.
  5. Barry King makes them.
  6. It may have been done with figure bevelers.
  7. I see them on E-bay from time to time, they always sell
  8. I use silicone tubing. it is soft enough to stretch tightly over the shaft and tough enough to last forever. It is also heat resistant to about 750 degrees F. so if you tool really fast you don't have to worry about heat friction meltdown of your handle.
  9. I recently bought 7 new bevelers from Barry King, they are precise and effortless to use. Money well spent.
  10. My Figure bevelers were made before 1963. The edges and the corners are sharp. and are made that way for precise detail. they take some practice ,don't tap them as hard as other bevelers. rock them back on the heel to mat, and smooth out the lines with a modeling tool.
  11. I have had good luck on EBay. Look for the ones made before 1969. The older the better. Craftool Co. with no number made in 1950's. Craftool Co. with number only, made before 1963. Craftool Co. with letter and number 1963-1968. Craftool Co.USA made after 1969. after this most craftools are junk.
  12. Try Tandy Bison Brown
  13. Thanks, I already checked that one out, the case I have is an entirely different animal. It is a combination of canvas and leather,
  14. I recently bought a vintage Tandy kit # 4412 Shotgun case. I need the assembly directions for this kit.
  15. I was a code welder for 20 years, all the ones I saw were just a pad about 6 to 8 inches wide and 8 to ten inches long, with velcro straps. they need to be a couple of layers thick to protect the welder from heat. I always just used an old glove. Hope this helps
