  1. I've been asked to make a holder for a vape, but there doesn't seem to be much interest on my part. Despite the fact that I use one, it doesn't appeal to make a leather cover. Maybe I don't like it enough...or maybe I would find it less interesting than the classic lighter cover. In the mid-80's, as I was being guided through intake, I didn't know AT ALL what I was doing. I had a full pack of 'TM's' on me, and through guile and ignorance, managed to transfer them into my issued clothing. Got on to the range, and only later discovered that I hadn't done myself any favours. They were terribly valuable, and I was as ignorant as anyone could be. (no-one ended up getting them lol) In that time, a pack of cigarettes was likely about 2 bucks, but since it was a 'young offender' facility, cigarettes were forbidden, driving their value up. Most any of my fellow residents would usually hope for, was a smuggled package of tobacco, which I found unappealing for a number of reasons.
  2. I think she's from Ontario, and probably isn't permitted to laugh at a joke like that, so I will. lol I moved far northwest of Onterrible in search of more jokes, and the jokers who laugh at them.
  3. I think so, but then again I didn't watch the whole video...
  4. Thanks! I don't mind buying designs, as design is tough work for me.
  5. Any non-profit, NGO or other org seems sus to me automatically, and only by sharing clear, comprehensive and often legally required information can they elevate themselves in my (not always) humble opinion. TL:DR I'll reconsider doing your survey if you start by offering a reasonable fee for my time.
  6. This one is great, but all the nylon webbing is resistant to the stretching and shrinking I expect with leather. Ethyl is a bit careless about running into water. Or more often watery goose-poop, thick, sticky and smelly mud, or anything else she likes the stank of. She has a leather 'necklace' (collar with no leash attachment ring) but I haven't tried making a proper collar or harness yet. Maybe I can make her one for when she doesn't have a chance to find something wet...
  7. My pup has been running 3 or 4 times a week with me, and is ready to start expanding her training. One day, she could be an ultra dog I just don't know if I'm ready to start that kind of training. Last time I trained for an ultra, it meant running 2500 kms to get ready for 50km. To steer it back to leather, she has a harness that I really enjoy, brand is 'Sporn'. There is a metal triangle which allows the nylon web to slide through. I'm considering copying it, but I don't want to end up with a stretched leather, or worse something that won't loosen. I think I'll have to go browse strange hardware suppliers, or get out the plasma torch and files...
  8. I have a dictionary in my shop that I was going to try 'one day'. So far, my attempts have seemed a bit pedestrian. That Hobbit book looks awesome! Maybe I'll revisit that notion, and take some of the advice offered to @4knights Cool beans!
  9. That's a great looking case (scabbard? Sheath? Bladeprophylactic?) Kidding aside, I haven't used a machete, but it looks pretty awesome too. More often in my experience, axes or hatchets are used. They may not be legal in Australia, but I think we can still have them in Canada and parts of the UK
  10. Of all you've written about, this may be the most impressive. Congrats to both of you.
  11. We are also getting fall colours. I've been looking forward to it, as fall is our anniversary. Most couples seem to get by with one day, but my sweetheart and I take the whole season. 25th this year (note: the pic in front of the Yellowknife sign is a stranger, not my sweetheart)
  12. I was. The spacing recommended by the designer was the smaller ones. I didn't like them as much, so tried the bigger ones. There are a few options with this template set, so I'm running through options, and trying to appreciate the design elements I would not have gotten right. I've seen those, but haven't had a chance to try one. They do add more bulk, but I like the design you used with it. Interesting choice on the screws, too.
  13. Thanks, PastorBob!
  14. I do like that style of clip, but didn't see it on offer anywhere. Have you got a source for this kind of hardware? As to the evenness, I could use some more attention there. The visibly irregular one (with the Cdn flag) suffered a bit from my being very new with the drum sander. I should probably make a table for it. Tool-rest kind of thing.
  15. Hey, Tilda! Welcome from northern Canada! Hopefully I'll get to see some of your collar designs.
  16. That looks like a cool hobby. Some pals and I made up a small rocket stove and used it to forge a bit of aluminum. Looks like you have managed a lot more heat than that. Have you heard of the 'lost wax method' of casting? Ten or fifteen years ago, a youtuber copied it with the 'lost PLA method', allowing him to 3d print blanks, and cast complex shapes. Too much infrastructure needed to do anything like that in my teeny shop, but I hope to see more about yours!
  17. Got a 'money clipper' template from Tandy, and tried a few versions of it. The hardware is a bit boring, but I haven't seen much different. Please feel free to share any criticisms, or especially suggestions for improving. Coarse language and abusive adverbs welcome, but please stick to gentle adjectives.
  18. Beautiful work. Not the sling I usually see. Are they for a specific type of use? Beautiful work. Not the sling I usually see. Are they for a specific type of use? The hunting ones I've seen are all joined at 2 points.
  19. Yeah, I had a pal ask me to make a bullet sleeve for the stock of his bear gun. I told him no thanks. Prefer to make wallets for now. If someone loses their money it isn't as devastating as a bear-gun being 'wrong' somehow.
  20. Hi, neighbour! If I may bother you a moment, have you designed a dog collar that you like? Could I view it? Perhaps even buy a design?

Darren, I don't use leather collars, so can't be of help.

  21. oh, it sure would. It may be the best tech improvement to the woodstove since Franklin. Some pals made a very small one, and with twigs no bigger than my thumb, they melted a bunch of aluminum down to cast a 10 inch dragonfly ornament. I haven't got one yet, but it is also on my list. I kind of wonder how small it could be, while still re-burning the gasses...
  22. I found a similar document, but from the RCAF and focusing on physical fitness. When I asked the Feds (air force) about it, they said it was out of copyright. I posted it online to share, after scanning and manually entering the text. You could likely get similar permission here, and as Al Zilla offered, several of us may be willing to help out. Looks like a terrific resource! Thanks for posting.
  23. I'm sorry you are having discomfort, and that you had to say goodbye to your dog. I'm giving mine an extra hug right now. I'm sure she would let you do the same. She's a golden named Ethyl, and she likes old people. Getting old sucks, but not as much as all the alternatives. I'm glad you stayed and shared that with us.
  24. I lived in both Edmonton and Calgary for years. I still drive (about 1000 miles) 1500 km or so south to visit family in Edmonton. The winters here are like the ones in Edmonton, but are long and cold. I love winter, and the summer heat, while a treat, is only good in short bursts. Currently we are at (61F) about 16C, and if I don't hurry up and get my run in early, it'll just get warmer.
  25. Glad to hear it! I'll pour one this afternoon, and toast your (and your daughters) success
