A Newbies Observations And Questions
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks again....I thought the 138 was a little light for stress points on a full size holster. I plan on trying different threads down the road......to many to choose from and I am confused enough for now. I have tried to tie them of but just dont like the appearance. I have been melting it instead. I look at this machine and know it is loaded with potential......its just slow unlocking said potential -
I can only imagine how you that are experienced tire of in-experienced questions. So posted previously about the heart aches of back stitching. Have been using 277 thread until just now when I switched to the only black thread that I have which is 138. All of the sudden back stitching does not seem so bad. The question...... I see videos of people making leather holsters with white thread and then dying afterwards. I tried that with nylon thread and it was a no-go. What thread is it that is used to be able to do everything in white and dye afterwards? Or did I dream this after one to many late night of youtube videos. Is 138 thread suitable for most holster making?

Finishing The Machine Stitch With Hand Stitch
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks Learning as we go -
thank you

I have yet to figure out how to back stitch without having a stack of stitches on the back side. I have been finishing it out by leaving extra thread and grabbing a needle and backstitching (or forward) by hand then melting the ends. Since I am learning I cant help but ask myself, and now you.....Is there anything wrong with doing this??? As always .....thanks for your time.

Skipped Stitch Due To Contact Cement Not Dry?

Thanks. I knew that I knew nothing about sewing with a sewing machine when I ordered it.........and after having it a week or two I realize how much more I do not know than I thought. Learning as we go -
Skipped Stitch Due To Contact Cement Not Dry?

Are there other scenarios that would cause skipped stitches? To much cement? or others that one should be aware of? I am just learning my machine -
Butt Stock Cover Question
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice indeed! Thanks Dwight. I knew there was a way.....it just had to be shown to me. Your replies are always informative and appreciated. Oh yeah.....HAPPY THANKSGIVING -
Was asked to do a butt stock cover and sling for a rifle. When I got the rifle I saw that it has a butt stock with a top that is not flat. I have drawn on the little pattern what seems to me like the way to do it, but have found no examples to follow. Would really appreciate a little guidance or suggestions about how to do this.

I am sewing on my new Cowboy 3200. and need a few answers and directions please. 1. Is there a picture, site, or PDF that labels the parts? I am figuring out what each piece does but dont clearly no the name of that piece. all over the machine but particularly the moving parts where the sewing takes place. 2. When back stitching, where should the needle be when the lever gets switched to change directions? Getting the back stitches to look descent is really the hardest part so far. 3. I think so, but would like to be sure. Is my machine a 441 clone? Thanks

First Builds Using The New Machine
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Answering the question about 24 needles. BUT I just noticede I asked about 24 needles when I meant to ask about 23 needles with 277 thread. I had a 25 needle and several said the hole was to big. So the only size smaller I had was 23. I had asked if there was a problem using a 23. -

Well......I was about to argue......then I reminded myself that I am asking questions because yall no more. The last picture of the lighter color thumb break holster.....I would have sworn I had it set at 5 per inch..................foot in mouth.....swallow my pride........heck I was wrong......... Sure enough. I COULD HAVE SWORN I CHANGED THAT....... well Back to the begining aagain....thanks for your patience One of my frustrations has been it took me much trial and error to realize that some things were "free floating" or not tightened down and moving and getting worse each time I used it. In a frustrated state, I guess when I tightened several nuts I messed up my adjustments. learning as we go -

I am not sure if the post has been read in entirety. The first pic of the belt has stitches at 6 per inch and the pictures are in processional order. By the last pic the stitches are 5 per inch. A few posts down I posted an example of stitching with a 23 needle. I did not oil the machine, it is only one of the problems I have with the way it was shipped to me. I realize the high opinion of bob kovar but It was apparent there were several errors is the setup of the machine and errors in order with no offer to remedy the errors......I have not nor will I give all the details in order to bad mouth some one.....just wont recommend or order anything else. nuff said. -

Well I had some 23 needles and this is what a test turned out like. Have not changed stitches per inch. Was just curious. I think they look better but is this needle to small for any reason? Are the back stitches to loose? The stupid machine is still dripping oil. I will be glad when the quart they put in finally quits dripping. I wiped it all off before I started. On a project I have to keep stopping and use a q tip to sop it up. Ridiculous! -

thanks. I just took the dealers suggestion of a 25 needle but think someone posted to try a 24 needle. i am going to get one locally and see if that helps. Most charts do say a 25 needle for a 277 thread but I have had some mention to try a 24. I increased the stitch but guess I will take it up to a 5 per inch and see if that works better. Thanks. -

The first is my first cowboy belt and is for my daily use as a work belt. I really don't understand why it is so comfortable, but it sure is. Next I did a wingman that had been waiting to to be sewn since I ordered the machine. Next was my first thumb break. The colors got away from me but the customer loved it, so I sealed it and he will be happy. I obviously put my makers mark in the wrong area not thinking. Then a simple cowboy holster which was different since it was the first attempt when the start and stop was not at the same place. woops.......2 fronts and no back -
Here are a few pics of the first things I have sewn on the new cowboy 3200. Feel free to point out anything good or bad you see, especially in relation to sewing. I will post the pics in order that I did them. So hopefully mistakes in the first pic don't carry over to the next and so forth. and one more that would not fit

Start And Stop On Holster Question
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
JLS -- guess I tightened the wrong thing. What did I tighten? At the same time that I tightened the wrong adjustment I switched from 207 to 277 so I guess that could have tightened it up or it was just my imagination. Red ---- that bit about shortening for the curve is priceless, I guess after a time or two I could know just how far to turn, I dont think i would be comfortable just hand bumping the lever though I guess that could be done as well I sat and watched the movement of the bobbin and think I have it understood now, AM I CORRECT that once the hook picks up the thread and start moving it is then the opportune time to left the lever and make a sharp turn?? And I am unclear as to how the locking the stitched in works. I am supposing that it is the reverse action that going over backwards locks them into place (still unclear in my mind). If that is the case then would just completing the circle and passing over the first 3-5 stitches "lock" them?? Again appreciate the time and patience to help me.
