Any Tips On My First Revolver
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Well, Im about half way in to it. There was a time I would have been worried the whole time. Progress is all I look for. making patterns has always been a challenge. I recently did one for a cz75b and decided to just put the gun in the paper (cardstock) pattern and study it. After a while it becomes more obvious if something is out of whack. I made an adjustment to the stichline and got after it. Best as I recall it is the first pattern that was spot on perfect from the get go. -

Any Tips On My First Revolver
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
none for a revolver......but a few cowboy.....should not be a problem......famous last words -
I have my most repeated customer and the one I have done more "first time" projects for asking for a avenger for a Ruger GP100 4 Inch Barrel. I have made several avenger and am starting to get comfortable making them but in my head there are little voices screaming there is going to be some things new to learn in this build. Any tips or things I should be aware of? Of course pics are very helpful as well

Magazine Carriers
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
very interesting how each goes about it. Yesterday I was looking at blue gun mags and there in the ball park of real mags. I have thought I might make a few for now (this time of year I have time) and start buying good priced ones as they come along. all the posts are good but Lobo that is priceless.....the part I am curious about is did you just write that out of your head, or reference or copy and paste ......whichever it is good -
Magazine Carriers
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
alrighty then. I am going to assume the following and you feel free to correct me. We are talking micrometer measurements assume? And I assume a hardwood that less likely to swell? malapaglia ......I will take those measurements and I guesss start being the friend at the range that always wants to measure someones mags -
Is there a reference source that can tell you what magazines will work in which carriers? the little 9mm single stacks are very similar but can you make a general magazine carrier that works for most. for instance I have a guy wants a pouch for a Shield and I have a Bersa BP9CC but how do you know if they are close enough. I am just getting over having to pony up for fake guns, do I have to get individual fake mags as well?

Cross Draw 1911?
cleanview replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
thanks, that does help. -
Some one bought one of my Glock 19 Avenger holsters and now wants several things. He wants a cross draw OWB for a 1911. Most examples I look at ride a little higher on the belt. Wondering if that is normal and of course if you have a pic to share or any tips. He also want what he called a milt parks 6 pack mag holder for a 1911 mags. I asked for a pic and he sent the attatched http://s619.photobucket.com/user/whatfor/library/Milt%20Sparks%20Six-Pack It looks fairly simple but I do wonder if the front of the pouch is connected to the dividers. Really don't think so. I just started advertising selling holsters two months ago and he gave me what I consider the highest compliment. Jobs related to carrying a gun all his life (LEO MP guard) and he said the avenger was the best holster he has had. The reason it is the best compliment is re refereed to fit and function where as most compliment appearance

Help With Holster Pattern?
cleanview replied to kjmilligan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
This is a left handed similar to your design that I finished last week. I have done the sewn in clips but like the adjustable better. People are slow to try them but every customer I have persuaded to try them loves it because of the multi position. This model is called my omni..T-nut in between leather pieces, leather spacer, clip, lock washer and screw. And while I am less experienced than most on here (listen to them over me) I find the stitch line measuremnets below the trigger guard should be less in distance than any where else. This affect how deep in the holster the gun goes and thats the part i get particular about. -
cool

ok thank you

Well no pics tonight, but do believe I have made some progress in setting it up and have to admit I am not sure if I will have the never to change it for the next thin holster I do. I guess I can just count and record and "in theory" put it right back when needed. One last question......In all this I have learned a lot and have figured out a bunch through what you all have told me and observation, but for the life of me I can not see how the second tension disc (counting from the spoor of thread forwards) has any affect on the tension. The nut tightens the spring but it seems to have zero affect on the tension off of the disc. I dont think that the disk spins (it does not clasp the thread like the first one does). It looks like its there to tinker with when you just feel the need to tinker with something. Well, some one will tell me or in some not to distant future it will become apparent. Thanks once again

very interesting. i was under the allusion that The smallest hole the better, but what you says makes perfect sense. that pic is 207 thread in a 23 needle. I will put in a 24 without changing anything else and see what it does. Can you explain by what you mean when you say the bottom stitches are low? I would think that means the knot but would like to be sure.

This mornings sewing after adjusting Still not sucking the knot in far enough. Thoughts Longs thread, (forum) really appreciate it

oh, A glass is half full kind of guy.....I am going to know this machine better than my wife before its over, well there both easy to mis understand anyways. I do know where the pressure to the foot is adjusted.....it was that it was referred to as the center of the foot, and when I looked at it the center of the foot it was the walking foot. and down that dark path I went......it was a very dark path I have put it in the center ....heck I had that thing in every imaginable position ....then I remembered all those pics I took of it in this thread and think I have it back where it goes........just something aint write......keep getting loose threads. Well i woke up early to go hand stitch, but instead I will get back to the drawing board
-
Well, I thought I was adjusting what I was supposed to but in the past 4 hours I have not been able to get it right. Per the instructions in the picture I adjusted the walking foot to have less pressure. and every since its like the tension adjusters dont do what they are supposed to. I have backed them off to nothing and tightened them one turn at a time and sewing and the stupid not will not come into the leather and I get sporadic loose stitches on the top (I have never gotten those) I just started taking holster orders and have six that need stitching. I was convinced I would figure it out and have adjusted the tensions so many times and cant seem to get any where. Perplexed in Amarillo

THANKS for the encouraging words

thanks so very much. Very informative. Some of these things are very eye opening to a beginner. What you just said really opens up why things do what they do. More to play with this evening. Right now I spend far to much time experimenting but know that it will be well worth it in time. I have used 138 thread in the "skinny" holster that I make and it works better. I really need to play with fine tuning to get the over all look that I want
-
Thanks ....it is great to make progress To be clear, your saying adjust the walking foot downward a little? BUT I am so curious how do you know that from a picture? What is the indicator? It amazes me how much someone more experienced can see stuff like that in a picture (I know it will come in time) The below pictures are the same holster folded over to make the avenger. The machine seem to suck the bottom thread in to the leather good when the bottom is flesh side but not so good when the bottom is the grain side. Is there a way to correct that. This is better than usual. The worst is when I sew to 2 ounce pieces together (the pic is to 8 ounce pieces)
