  2. DId you order a holster that would fit a gun AND tactical light? That space looks like the holster is fitted for a gun with a light.
  3. I compete with and carry a Glock, which is hardly a work of delicate art. l'lI give you my impressions of your design from a modern perspective. We cover our muzzles for a couple reasons: Protect the crown of the barrel for accuracy and the front sight from getting ripped off. Protect our furniture. To some degree to hide what we are carrying. Most people who have bikini holsters use them for range use where they will be shooting multiple guns and just want to put on one holster that will fit all of their guns. Up and down from 3 o'clock is the fastest position to get on target from. In fact, a person could shoot at the target immediately after clearing the holster (speed rock style). Cross draws, Small of the back, etc. require swinging your gun to the target. The swinging means less control of where it stops and allows your attacker time to grab it. I'm a firm believer that Murphy was an optimist and as a result I could see enough of the rivets busting that the wearer would lose control of the pistol, either the belt loop or the holster falling apart. Alot of kydex holster suffer from the same vulnerabilities. Since you don't like sewing, you should consider linking up with some of the holster makers here to see they'd be willing to enter into a consignment type or wholesale arrangement. I'd bet you'd sell more replicas if they were packaged with period-correct holsters. The holster is the frame that should complement the pistol.
  4. This video from leather wranglers helped me alot: The diamond hones are the secret, especially the 8000 grit one.
  5. I apologize to all for posting my political comment. To make up, I hereby submit this gem ... CNN anchor Deb Feyerick asks Bill Nye The Science Guy if an approaching asteroid “is an example of, perhaps, global warming?” http://www.mrctv.org...-global-warming Sometimes its hard to tell which is worse on the news, the train wreck or the reporting on the train wreck.
  6. Nigel, this is wonderful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have two questions. You mentioned 45 degrees. Is that the angle of the stabbing to the face of the leather along the stitch line? My second question is whether the UK will take back Piers Morgan. He's become quite obnoxious.
  7. rgepting posted this beautiful holster and mag holder in the Gallery. Does anyone know what the skin is on the mag holder? http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=gallery&module=images&section=viewimage&img=16530

What is that skin on the mag holder? These are beautiful!
  9. What you need is a furrier, the people who make fur coats. I'd suggest you find a local store that sells fur coats and ask them who does their alterations. That would be the guy/gal to get to do the work.
  10. I'm in Marietta (north of atlanta). I'm just a hobbyist.
  11. Awesome job. I love how the inlay adds curves to the holster.
  12. This fellow sells on Ebay. He is in Israel. http://www.etgarleather.com/index.html I haven't ordered from him.
  13. For the guy's arthritis, would a velcro attachment method be more comfortable? My mother-in-law has arthritis and she has trouble with little tabs like that. Comp-Tac has clips for that style. http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=78
  14. Very nice. It is sort-of similar to a design DM Bullard makes and it works as a tuckable. As a gun carrier, I'd make two changes: 1) Those metal clips, especially the bottom stickie out part, tear up furniture and car seats. I have a friend whose car seat looks like a squirrel was chewing on it because of those clips.. Kydex clips might work better since they don't have that sharp edge sticking out. Another alternative is to put little leather socks on each clip to soften the edge. 2) add a leather washer between the clip and leather holster. This is will give a person more room to spread out their shirt when tucking, make it easier and more certain to pull out their shirt when deploying the gun, and prevent their shirt from getting stuck between the clip and leather holster.
  15. Yikes.... that is scary. I wonder if his pant's belt loop pushed the leather in just enough that an edge caught on the trigger, then bammo.
  16. I think you need to extend the bottom a little bit more. I've found that a little bit of gun sticking out will pup upward when you sit especially in a car seat. Then you'll develop a bad habit of checking the security of your gun and end up getting made. Also leather at the bottom protects the crown of the barrel and the front sight from being hit and damaged.
  17. Kiitos (I think that is Finnish for thank you) Thank you! I love the look of your holster. It has elements of the old-west holsters such as the subtle swoosh at the trigger guard and the un-molded body with the flat bottom edge. The mag pouch is cool with the spider web hide pattern. The pattern draws your eye in. Very nice.! I'm going to give Buffalo a try. I used to carry my Glock in a Kydex holster but it was uncomfortable because it was so rigid, especially in a car. A cow and Buffalo combination might make an even more comfortable holster than just cow leather. A nice thing about an un-molded look is that a non-gun carrier won't "see" a gun at first glace. Usually, the grip of the firearm is hidden from view by the upper arms. So most people will see what they've seen thousands of times before, a cell-phone case. I've seen people carry highly molded holsters and they scream gun. Since I open carry predominately and don't want scare anyone, I try to be a little more discrete and appear to be "normal".
  18. Suicide, For a gun holster, your description implies that 3 oz of buffalo leather pasted to 5-6oz cow hide leather is better than a thick 8-9oz buffalo piece. Is that accurate or can we make holsters out of 8-9 oz Buffalo? Thanks
  19. Please forgive my purse reference. In my head, I was thinking bag but it is too nice to be called a three letter word. Exquisite is the proper term for your work.
  20. What is the wallet thingie for? Beautiful purse.
  21. If you were looking for low margin, high volume cookie cutter business, I can't think of a better place to go than a gun show (that is a dig against gun shows). The clientele at a gun show are looking for el-cheapo bargains with their beef jerky. The atmosphere is a combination of 1950's metal shop and aircraft hanger. Not the best place to show an ostrich leg holster. Another non-gun show idea are craft shows. I'm sure there are husbands being dragged along to attended these shows. If you can set up a table for the men-folk to hang out/hide, you might get some sales that way. Bring your blue guns, nothing says man-hiding-spot than guns, even fake guns.
  22. I'm just starting out in Leather but I've been a competitive shooter and on gun web sites since 2001. Here are some marketing ideas that I'm sure will work: 1) Look for gun web sites that have holster forums or a holster picture threads. Post your picture there and explain its construction. You don' t need to be obvious that you are in the business or looking for business. Put a little link for your business in the signature line like how Spinner did it above. Here is an example of a holster specific forum: http://www.georgiapacking.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=27&sid=59b7c3e3b4a146a5d45a8a5466cda9d4 2) See if you can set up a table at a shooting match. Offer free polishing and minor repair work of leather holsters such as burnishing edges, etc. to attract shooters to your table. 3) Find out about STATE gun groups that hold meetings where you can set up a table or just attend their meeting sporting your fanciest holster. I'm part of GeorgiaCarry.Org and there are several members who make holsters and belts. They get tons of business from the members. We just had a convention and those leather maker's table had a constant stream of people ordering. If I didn't have the genetic urge to learn leatherworking and make my own holster, I'd buy from them as well and probably will (got to support those who support us) I see you are in Florida ... check out these guys http://www.floridacarry.org/ . I'm a big fan of CalGuns in California. They do awesome work in a very tough environment. http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/ Here is a California gun forum link: http://www.calguns.net/ The non-NRA state level groups are more active, more successful, and have members who are willing to spend money with people who are also members.
