I need help getting my gofundme campaign going. I am trying to raise money to purchase leather tools for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. I posted a topic in this section a while back and got some very good donations of tools and supplies. But I need a lot more. the link is https://www.gofundme.com/cdwdkpzg I didn't know this, but gofundme requires you to upload your friends from Facebook. The problem is I don't use Facebook so I have no friends. Please take a look at it and if you are willing, send this link to as many leatherworkers and friends that may be interested in helping me. And ask them to please pass it along. A lot of people on this forum never get to this section so it is difficult to get in contact with them. With your help we can make this a successful campaign. Also if you wish to donate leather stamps and tools, please send to the address below. Thank you so much, Dale Prezgay 4800 Crimson Glory Lane Las Vegas, NV 89130

I have a problem i need to solve asap. I am helping the local BSA with their leather program. Raising money and getting tool donations is going to be a big part of that. But the problem at hand is this. Storage of the 2d/3d leather stamps and alphabet sets. The boxes they have are severely worn and need to be replaced. Tandy discontinued the boxes they sold and currently have some plastic racks that will not work for our needs. Springfield Leather has a box that will work but it has an attached lid that makes it awkward when it is opened on the table, as it takes up twice the space. Since I am looking at a custom solution I have come up with one I think is pretty good. Our Council has multiple sets of tools that have to be kept separate. These are the programs they have: Cub Scout Day Camp - There are supposed to be 4 identical sets of tools that are loaned to the districts whenever they are doing a day camp. They handle up to 20 scouts at a time with multiple sessions throughout the day. These sets are also used for the Leatherwork Merit Badge events sponsored by the council with 20 scouts per class. Usually 2 classes in a day. BSA Scout Reach - There are supposed to be 4 identical sets of tools for use in this program for about 40 kids to use the tools at a time with 3 or 4 groups that use them that day. BSA Summer Camp - Last year our council had 2 summer camps running, one outside Las Vegas and one in Utah. So there are 2 sets of tools that are kept at their respective camps. So there are 10 sets of tools that need to be managed with 8 that are supposed to be mobile. I am thinking of building a front-opening box with trays, of 3/4" plywood, that can be removed and set on a table. The trays would be close enough that the tray above would act as a stop so the stamps wouldn't shift during transport. One of the designs I am considering is having a row of stamps and just below it a leather strip with the stamp impression and stamp number on it. This way I can easily see if anything is missing when the set gets turned in. The problem is that this takes up a little more than twice the space as the regular stamp box. But it will keep the stamps in order. This will apply to the alphabet sets as well. For my own stamps, I used to keep them in the boxes, stacked in a cabinet but every time I wanted a specific stamp or alphabet set it always seemed to be the bottom box I needed. Now I keep them in one of those flat file cabinets commonly known as blueprint, map or art cabinets. Actually I have 3 of them with a total of 15 drawers. Now all the alphabet and 3d stamps are spread out in a single layer. My alphabet sets take up 3 drawers. The 2d/3d stamps including the stamp sets (sports, native american, emojis, etc...) take up 4 and the rest are filled with leather tools and stuff. After I create the same custom trays like I describer above, my 3d stamps will probably use at least 6 drawers. I've seen them on offerup for as little as 90.00 each, so they are a bargain. But not great for mobility. Any other ideas out there? Dale

Thanks for the idea of using a steel rod. My only question is that based on how thin the rod would have to be wouldn't it eventually bend? I know very little about steel and hardness requirements. Is the JB Weld the stuff that has 2 parts and you mix them together? Could I put 1 part in the stamp and the other on the handle then twist the rod around to mix it in the stamp hole? Dale

I am trying to organize the tools at our local BSA. I am going to buy several of the Craftool Native American Symbols stamp sets. They are 1/4" 2d stamps that need a small stamp handle to use. After working with Cub Scouts, I find it necessary to buy a bunch of the small stamp handles and glue them to the stamps. This brings up the price by about 3.00 per stamp (there are 43 stamps in the set that costs about 30.00 for the whole set,) but it would solve several problems. Every session during the day we ended up looking for these stamps that were missing due to the small size. The younger kids had a harder time changing the stamps since some of the extra handles that they had were too tight and got stuck in the stamp. The question I have is: What is the best glue to use that will stand up during it's (ab)use by the kids? I'm talking about the repeated mallet blows and occasional dropping of the stamp. This seems excessive to add about 130.00 to the cost of a 30.00 set but I believe it would speed the kids up and save time by not having to look for the lost stamps. The group sizes I deal with in the BSA Day Camp program are usually less than 10 with a total of up to 125 kids a day. And I am pretty anal about making sure all the stamps are there after each session since I am taking my own personal stamps to the events. But I can't make it to each Day Camp and they are supposed to have 4 sets of these tools to loan out. So I am trying to raise money to buy the rest of what they need. What do you think?

I did a google search of "clipboard clips" and came up with a variety of clips that looked similar to the ones in citation books. I hope this helps. Dale

Craftool 8209 is usually listed between 10 and 15 Craftool 8372 is usually listed between 20 and 60. I just paid 25 for one. Craftool 886 is usually listed at 40 to 60. But I recently bought 1 that was included in a set of 34 stamps and paid 62 for all of them and another one in a set of 22 stamps for 17. Midas 8261 is usually listed at 30 to 60. I can't remember what I paid for mine but I did buy a lot of about 45 midas stamps that I paid around 200. A lot of the ones for sale on ebay are actually new stamps. There is a company that still makes them overseas. Also many of these sellers would take a lesser offer if you contact them. There are deals out there if you are willing to wait Dale

I know exactly what you mean. What I am doing is putting together sets of tools to do workshops with scouts and other youth groups. For example, I usually put 25 3d stamps in a box. I would paint the box blue along with the stamps. each box and set of stamps a different color. Then have a piece of leather with all the impressions of the stamp that are included in that box. That way I can quickly determine which stamps are missing and charge the group for those missing stamps. The really valuable ones I will keep separate and sign them out individually or have them used at one station. My own collection of handle stamps I will keep for myself but I can't justify a whole 2nd set of 2d/3d stamps. All 2d/3d stamps, including the stamp sets total over 900 of which I have around 400 unique stamps. Hopefully by the end of summer I will have over 600. I have lots of duplicates, some I have 1, others I have 17. I also have a couple hundred handle stamps. I am trying to put together about 24 sets of basic tools for carving classes, each painted its own color. Each set in its own toolbox. With the classes lasting about 6 weeks. 1 class per week. Anyways, I rambling. The idea is that the tools are marked so they can be put back in their own spot so I can quickly determine if anything is missing at the end of the session.

I was wondering what the best way to mark leather stamps so they don't get mixed with others' tools. I am taking some of my stamps for the kids to use and don't want to get them mixed up with the other tools that are provided at the event. I have purchased tools that have been painted and taped and wanted to get some feedback from others that "loan" out their tools. I think painting could be faster but I want them to still look nice. I don't think it is necessary or even advisable to paint the whole handle. Maybe just an inch or two near the head of the tool and tape the rest since I don't want them to look sloppy. Maybe a bright orange or yellow. Maybe painting sloppy is better. Tape gets sticky after a while and it would quickly in my Las Vegas garage. Same question about 3d stamps and mallets. So: Paint or tape or other? Color? Sloppy or neat? I am getting a lot of tools to use for scouting and other youth groups so we are talking tools for up to 40 kids. With all the 2d/3d stamps, handle stamps and alphabet stamps there will be over 1,000. Thanks, Dale

I run across these patterns every once in a while. I know I have them buy not sure where they are. I think they are in one of the older books that Tandy sold. If I find them I will post them here. Dale

I'm working with the local Tandy. They have come with me when I've needed help and tools. In addition they provide 1 free project for each kid. I try to get the key fobs, since the parents like doing those too. I also buy the 3d stamps when they go on clearance and I time my buying to the best sales. Like the handle stamps that were only 3.00 a couple months ago. I'm already able to buy at the lowest level too when I need something right away. This month they have a sale on the yellow poly mallets that's half of what they usually cost me. I wanted to get 18 of them but I just bought 19 used rawhide mallets for 100.00. I'll probably still get 6 of the large ones though. About the only things I will borrow from them is Granite slabs. I can get them for next to nothing as scrap from the guys that do countertops, but I have to pay for the cutting and polishing. They are only about an inch thick though so I expect some breakage. I'll probably make them 12x6 or 6x6 and glue poundo board on the bottom so they don't scratch the tables at the schools. I have mainly concentrated acquiring 3d stamps and interesting handle stamps for the scouts. They don't have time nor the attention span to learn any real stamping. Not that i'm any kind of expert in that area. So if I can teach them how to stamp a border and give a few design ideas I think I'm doing OK. I started putting my leather tools in a spreadsheet so I know exactly what I have. I finished entering the 3d stamps and re-evaluated what I actually need and what I can spare. I think I have a pretty good list of what 2d/3d stamps were made by Craftool, TLF and Midas. I have identified about 750 stamps, not including the stamp sets. I stated above that I wanted 2 sets of stamps. One to use and one for backup. I decided that I only need 1 complete set, with backups of some of the most popular and hard to get stamps. So I only need about 360 stamps total. Most of them are the Craftool and TLF stamps between 8500 and 8550, the smaller Craftool stamps between 8800 and 8871 and about half of the Midas stamps. The rest (about 40) are Craftool stamps between 8200 and 8499. But that's not including the scout stamps I have listed above that I need. I do have 1 complete set of all the scout and youth group stamps but those don't ever leave my sight. Next I'm going to enter the handle stamps in the spreadsheet. I sorted them into cups by letter. Now I just have to input them. I mostly have purchased the handle stamps on ebay willie nillie, when I got a good deal. So they are all over the place. I think the best way to do this is to have about 50 common stamps on each table and a bunch of fun stamps, like the Craft Japan stamps, on a main table. The rest I will use in more advanced classes that I want to start. There is a list of all the stamps, 453 total, used in older books and craftaids. I want to get a complete set of those so the kids can work on larger projects and have all the correct stamps. I just joined a maker space that has woodworking tools, CNC router, laser cutter and 3d printers. I plan on making custom storage boxes and racks to organize all of this stuff. Like a pullout tray system to store all the 3d stamps. With about 50 stamps on each tray. 5 rows of 10 stamps each, plus a strip of leather below with the stamp impression on it, to keep track of missing stamps. They will have matching paint on the back of the stamp and the wood tray to make them easier to put away. Each tray may have several of the stamp sets, all with their own color. Why do I want all of this? I like to give as much variety as possible, and as a former accountant, I'm anal retentive. I did receive a few very generous donations last year from this community and a few local people. I was hoping to get more this year but you are correct that I should post some photos. I've never thought to take any, but I will try to think of it this week. Since i only want 1 set of 3d stamps, I have 545 extra stamps. Some I'm going to donate to the local scout counsel once I figure out what they need. I may donate some to the makerspace I just joined. The rest I could sell on ebay, I really don't like to sell on ebay, but I may have to. So I was hoping to trade.for what I need. You sell on ebay, right. Would you be willing to do some trading? Dale

I'm trying to organize my 3d stamps into categories. This includes the 3d stamp sets also. Between Craftool, Midas, The Leather Factory and the various stamp sets, there are around 1,000 2d/3d stamps. My plan is to stamp them on leather squares, then organize them in notebooks in those plastic sheets that hold slides or baseball cards. I work with scouts and want them to sign out these stamps instead of leaving them out. Many of the stamps are expensive to replace. You would be surprised how many get "lost". I realize that a particular stamp may fall under more than 1 category so i will make multiple copies to cover all the categories they fit in. The categories I have so far are: Animals/Insects/Reptiles (Should these be separate?) Native American Symbols Western Scouts/Youth Groups Religion Nature Biker Organizations Sports Zodiac Celtic Military/First Responder (Tandy just came out with 10 stamps that would fit here) Vehicles Misc. I know I need additional categories since there are so many that don't fall into any of the other categories. So... What categories should I add/delete? What is the minimum number of stamps to start a new category? I'm thinking 6. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Dale

I need 2d and 3d leather stamps and sets. I work with scout and youth groups and am trying to get 2 each of all the pictorial leather stamps and stamp sets. If you have some that you are no longer using I could sure use them. Between Craftool, Midas, and The Leather Factory 3d stamps there were about 740 made. Not including the sets. I have less than half of those. So here is the deal: 1. If you could donate stamps that would be fantastic. My address is listed below. In fact I will take any tools that you want to donate. I especially need sets of the 10 "basic" stamps, mallets, swivel knives, tool racks, etc... 2. I have about 260 extra stamps, that I have 3 or more of, that I'm willing to trade for other stamps I need. 3. I am willing to pay for stamps, but to be honest, if you are looking to make a lot of money, then list them on ebay. I would like to buy large lots of the stamps as shipping can get expensive buying stamps one or two at a time. This is what I need: Scout Stamps - I want to get about 6 of each of these, so here is what I need: Note: These stamps may or may not be marked Craftool and the numbers on the stamps may have been used on other stamps. That is why I included the description. Cub Scout Stamps 6 - 8532 - 2 Finger Peace Sign - Not an official scout stamp but it is a symbol for Cub Scouts 1 - 8401 - Cub Scout 5 - No Number - Commonly referred to Cub Scout style 2 2 - 8445 - Tiger Scout 3 - 8442 - Bobcat 1 - 8441 - Wolf 3 - 8443 - Bear 0 - 8444 - Webelos 5 - 8440 - Arrow of Light Boy Scout Stamps 1 - 8402, 8414 or no number - Eagle Emblem 5 - 8508 or 8543 - Eagle with BSA on Front 6 - 8508 - Order of the Arrow - Indian Head 6 - 8545 - Order of the Arrow - Indian Head - looks like 8508 but it is a different look 6 - 8411 or 8511 - Order of the Arrow with arrowhead on it. Wood Badge Stamps 5 - 8544 or 8410 - Axe and Log 4 - 8412 - Fox 5 - 8413 - Buffalo 6 - 8414 - Antelope 6 - 8415 - Bear 6 - 8416 - Owl 6 - 8417 - Bobwhite 4 - 8418 - Beaver 6 - 8419 - Eagle Girl Scout 5 - 8483 - Girl Scout Contemporary 6 - 8484 - Girl Scout Trefoil 5 - 8485 - Daisy 5 - 8486 - Brownie 4-H 4 - 8216 or 8450 - 4-H symbol Midas Stamps - I only have about 1 box of these so I basically need all I can get. There are at least 190 of these stamps up to about 203. The Leather Factory Stamps - People often confuse these with craftool and midas With the exception of a few, the stamps number range is between 8501 and 8548. I have very few of these and no duplicates so I need all of them. Craftool - 8200's - I am surprised at how few of these I have. There are about 69 of these and I have less than 30. with very few duplicates. 8300's - I have a lot of these with duplicates. But I still have about 25 that I need 1 or 2 of. 8400's - I have about half of these with very few duplicates. 8500's - 8500 to 8574 - I only have a handful of these with only 2 that I have duplicates of. 8575 to 8599 - I have 1 of each of these so I need duplicates. 8600's - there are 15 of these that I do not have. I have 1 of each of the rest with few duplicates. 8700's - None Issued 8800 - These came out last year and are the 1/2" or 5/8" 2d and 3d stamps. I have 1 complete set of these but I still need 3 more because I am going to donate 2 to the local scout office. So if you would like to donate any of these they will go directly to the Local BSA. Please send me photos of what you have and how much you want for them or if you are willing to trade. FYI - I have no desire to sell any of this stuff on ebay or any other place. Even the stuff I buy. So I am not looking to get stuff cheap and resell it. They will be used during scout and youth group events and classes. In fact, I just joined a maker space and they already asked me to do leather classes. Any extra stamps and tools that I acquire will be used to trade for what we need and to fill in stamps that our local BSA is missing. However, I have made a few deals with some people that I sell their leather tools, and once I raise an agreed upon dollar amount, I got to keep the rest. That is the only time I will sell stuff. Please send to: Dale Prezgay 4800 Crimson Glory Lane Las Vegas, Nv 89130 702-768-3335 NOTES ON DONATIONS: First of all I realize it is a lot to ask for donations, especially in this economy. Rest assured that these will be used for a good cause. So you can feel good about that. I am mainly trying to get as many of the 2d and 3d stamps as I can. However If you would like to donate any other leather tools we can use them. I am trying to put together 24 tool kits that the scouts, that do the leathercraft merit badge with me, can take home and practice during the week between classes. So I need tools that would go in that toolbox. I also need: 2- 8130 3- 8131 5 - 8135 1 - 8136 The wood alphabet sets any 3/8" set. Preferably with numbers. Like Craftool 4907 & 4908. or Realeather T8133 is a good one. Any 1/4" alphabet sets with numbers. Any other complete or incomplete letter and number sets. I would like to have at least 1 of all the other sets just for variety during certain classes. Any stamp sets - Native American, sports, text terms, emoji, cartoon, zodiac, 8500, 8501, inspirational word, etc. I have very few of these and the smaller ones sometimes get lost. Handle stamp sets - The only ones of these sets that I think the kids would be interested in are the Cross set, Large and Small Barb Wire set, The circle stamps with the star, rope and barb wire in it, Steampunk Gears set, Iron Works set and Armed Services Set, The Baron smiley face stamps. Of course all are welcome. Baron Harley Stamp - The one with the number 1 on it. OK, this one is for me and the parents that I let make their own key FOBs. Other handle stamps - Here is what I'm looking for: Craftool - No-Letter stamps. I'm trying to get all the stamps that are needed to do any of the craftaids that were made. Based on the list I got from the internet, I still need 6 letter stamps and 242 no letter stamps. Any other stamps would be greatly appreciated. Letter stamps, A, C, D, E, G, J, K, L, M, N, P, S, U, V W, Y AND Z stamps are used the most. Baron, Midas, Kelly, Craft Japan and others - Any stamps that are like 2d or 3d stamps would definitely be used by the kids. a lot of the Baron and Craft Japan stamps are like that. Also any stamp that makes an interesting border would be cool. Slickers Edge Bevelers - Especially No 2 and 3 Swivel Knives and blades. Setters - Snap, Rivet, eyelet, etc. Hole punches Embossing tool and wheels - These would really be nice to have. Leather Shears Mallets and Mauls Burnishers Poundo Boards and Clicker pads Any hardware - rivets, snaps, conchos, grommets, spots, buckles, etc... Books, Stencils, Craftaids and patterns Leather kits - even those old ones that never got used. Doesn't everyone need a leather visor. All-in-one dyes - This is the only dye they have time to use. Any high quality tools - I would like to have some of these but I would be afraid they would get stolen. So I would probably trade these for other tools. But feel free to donate them if you want. Cash or Tandy gift cards - Always welcome. I will use these to buy stuff at tandy when it goes on sale or clearance. (I have purchased 3d stamps for as low as 1.25) Anything else I may have forgot to put on this wishlist. Thank you for any donations and especially for reading this far. Dale Please send to: Dale Prezgay 4800 Crimson Glory Lane Las Vegas, Nv 89130 702-768-3335

Mostly vegetable tan leather so the kids can practice stamping before starting on projects. Of course the bigger the better but scraps are scraps. So anything large enough to stamp 3d stamps or long enough to practice a border on would be great. Also any exotic scraps that I can show them as examples would be nice. Any leather than can be used as lining to a project. This would be for the older kids. I would like to have them sew lining on one of their projects. Probably a key fob or bracelet or small wallet sized linings would be great. Send scraps or tool donations (listed above) to: Dale Prezgay 4800 Crimson Glory Lane Las Vegas, NV 89130 Thanks, Dale

Anything you send me would be greatly appreciated. There are about 370, 3D stamps, I don't have between Craftool, Leather Factory and Midas. My address is above and I think I sent it to you when I was trying to respond from my phone. But I messed it up so I am reposting here. Thanks, Dale

Just wanted to say thanks for the donations that I received. I did receive a couple of donations from people that did not leave their name. I don't know if that was on purpose or not, but thanks all the same. Someone local even donated a sewing machine! I still need pretty much everything on the lists above except for the Craftool 69018-00 Circle Weave 4 piece Stamp Set. I'm in the process of putting everything I have in a spreadsheet then posting a list of what I need here. I should have that up in a couple of weeks. There is a lot of stuff that I would like to get at Tandy Leather. I like to buy the stuff they are closing out since it is cheaper. I have bought 3-D stamps for 1.00. I would also like to buy new stamps as they come out like the new mini 3-D stamps. They are perfect for bracelets, belts and other small projects we work on. If you want to send me a gift card you can purchase it at www.tandyleather.com, and they will send it to me. Just give them my address. Please send any donations to: Dale Prezgay 4800 Crimson Glory Lane Las Vegas, NV 89130 Thanks, Dale

I am looking to buy the following: Craftool #8148 - 3/4" Greek Alphabet Stamp Set Craftool #8144 - 3/4" Rodeo Alphabet Stamp Set Please let me know if you have these available. Thanks, Dale

The Boy Scouts Council where I live uses 6" x 6" pieces of poundo board that you can get at Tandy Leather. I helped during a Leatherworking merit badge class with about 30 kids and everything fit into 2 or 3 of those big Rubbermaid tubs and moved with a dolly. You should ask if there is anything you can borrow from the Tandy store. I have done that on occasion since they have tools that they use for their classes. As long as they are not doing a class at the same time it might work for you. They also came out and helped me with a class I did for a Girl Scout Troop and offered to do it again. (they provided a free project too). Hope that helps. Dale
