Spotted Rig
MadMorbius replied to kid terico's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I'd go crazy setting all those spots...hats off to you! -
As the topic says. All I can find is washed out pdf's and I can't read the diagrams. Does anyone have a legible copy of a the manual for the LU563 they could scan, or a pdf copy?

Techsew 5100 - What Foot Is This?

All straightened out, thanks! -
New Bag
MadMorbius replied to MadMorbius's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I dyed the vegtan using Ecoflow water stain in dark brown, followed by several applications of their cream conditioner and "tenderizing" of the leather (roll over the edge of the workbench (face up of course) from corner to corner, which loosens up the fibers somewhat (like conditioning sand paper). MLD - thank you for your comments. I'm very particular about my own work. I only shared my misadventures with this bag because I'm particularly proud of how I managed to save the piece, and posting about mistakes is how other people might avoid them -
Techsew 5100 - What Foot Is This?
MadMorbius replied to MadMorbius's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Yes, it's just 3 times the size of what I was expecting (not saying it's wrong). I did not recieve the other feet that are listed as part of the package (left toe, right toe, center groover, blanket foot etc). The width of this foot makes use of the material guide pretty much useless for anything less than 1/2" from the edge, so I was curious if I had some kind of gargantuan foot on there -
New Bag
MadMorbius replied to MadMorbius's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I got this particular hide on sale during one of the local Tandy's clearance events. It's very nice to work with, but lends better to machine sewing on the flat due to the supple nature of the hide. I used a polyester 138 thread for this bag at about 6 to the inch on the leather trim and 5 on the bag seams. I actually screwed this bag up completely by not paying attention to how I was putting in the gusset...resulting in a backwards bag that I considered tossing before I had the epihany to take it apart and sew it back together as an inside out bag -
New Bag
MadMorbius replied to MadMorbius's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
The main bag is 7/8oz bison leather with 4/5oz vegtan trim. The inside is two compartments, the large main compartment and a zippered pocket accessible from the rear of the bag. I made this bag primarily to test the "reborn" Juki LU563 I recently retro-fitted with a servo motor and adjusted for 138 thread. -
Finished this up today. First time I've done one of these, kind of happy with how it turned out.

I received my "fully loaded" package today, and appear to be missing the presser feet. I've emailed Techsew, but in the interim, I need to know what foot this is on the machine? I've never seen one this size before...Coming off a Juki Lu563 and jumping onto this...that foot looks positively massive (the photo is deceiving, but look at in relation to the bobbin!)

Very clean...nicely done! Question though...how does it secure in place?

What Machine For Sewing Gusset Corners On Messenger Bags?
MadMorbius replied to najram2007's topic in Sewing Leather
I've been sewing round corners on messenger bags on a flat table Juki LU563 for some time. What's the purpose of the stirrup plate in this scenario? Is the idea here that you can pull the excess material out of the way of the feed?- 19 replies

Canadaian Source - 12 Piece Drive Punch Set
MadMorbius replied to Northmount's topic in Leather Tools
I use that set occaisionally but they're the bevel is a little steep. I usually use a size smaller than I need on ehavier leathers as the steep bevel will enlarge the hole. -
Probably A Stupid Question...machine Weight
MadMorbius replied to MadMorbius's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Ok, maybe it wasn't such a stupid question afterall. I'm now the proud owner of a brand new Techsew 5100! Thanks all! -

Probably A Stupid Question...machine Weight
MadMorbius replied to MadMorbius's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks Ken. Techsew lists on their site "Delivered fully assembled, threaded and ready to sew". And I suppose I should clarify...I'm not crippled or anything, just not very flexible and perhaps a little gravimetrically challenged these days (6' 2, 250lbs) but I don't have too many people around to help me get this thing down to the shop. -
Ok, I'm about to pull the trigger on a Techsew 5100. Biggest reason is shipping in Canada, to Canada. Anyway, advertised shipping weight is 325lbs. Now, after a string of back injuries, I'm not in the best of shape anymore...is this thing really 325lbs? I need to get it down the stairs into the basement shop. I'm sort of assuming that's a paletized weight or something, and that I could maybe pull the head off the table to bring it downstairs. Am I over thinking this? Maybe I should just tip the delivery driver an extra $20 to take it downstairs

Add me please.

Galaxy Note 2 Case
MadMorbius replied to SmokeCigars's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
So have you used it? What do you think of it's functionality? Anything you'd improve based on your usage of the final product? That's the "continuous feedback and improvement" methodology I use on my stuff...I'm very picky, so if I find a problem with something I've made, I wouldn't expect anyone else to use it (or pay for it, for that matter) I like the way you formed the note-side. Did you use a wooden block or wrap the phablet in plastic wrap? I would suggest beveling any exposed edges and burnishing where appropriate. Nice work! -
Western Belt And Holster Set
MadMorbius replied to MadMorbius's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I left it open Doug, as I haven't quite mastered that particular stitch yet -
Hey guys, here's a piece I finished recently. This is the first holster I've done that wasn't based off a pre-made pattern. The entire design is my own. The belt is a modified version of Ghormley's HOG belt...but I screwed it up by slotting the cartridge loops about a 16th of an inch too close together, which causes a bend in the belt when they're loaded up. Overall though, I'm pretty happy with it, and would appreciate any comments. Thanks!

I'm in Mississauga...and would be interested as well. I also have family in Ottawa that could pick it up for me if that works...no shipping
