I really like that. I've always wanted to make one of those, I'm just not sure how well it would hold my 300 pound rear end!
  2. Amazing work! The front latch fits that bag perfectly and the back patch is great!
  3. The art work isn't mine. Some of these are copies of tattoos and others are free clip art that's out there. I've made quite a few changes to them in order to get the effect that I want and to make it look right on leather. I wish I had the talent to draw something like that!
  4. I think it looks terrible , you should send it to me so I can use it, I mean dispose of it for you. Seriously, very nice addition and balances well.
  5. Yeah it took a bit for her to get over that one! Here's another for the list though... Not matter how often it happens, and you know it's going to, when the acetone can "pops", you'll jump....
  6. I made one recently and inset the bottom after wet forming to the diameter I needed. I used a hole saw to cut the mould piece with. With the "open" end of the bottom piece pointing down, I placed the piece in place, anchored it with a few push pins, and then used my awl to push through for sewing holes. To make sure the piece stayed in place, and to provide a bit of resistance, I held a pink rubber eraser on the inside of the bottom and pushed the awl into that through the leather while also holding the needed pressure on the bottom to keep it in the correct location? Did that help or is it as clear as mud?
  7. These that I've been posting are samples of wall hangings or desk type art. Below is one I just completed that I DONT really like, but the customer didn't want a resist on the fish, so I dyed it all together. He's happy, and I'm paid! LOL They can go on most anything, but the wall and desk art are the most popular. I sell quite a few at some of the local marinas.
  8. You can get a rounded edge using a rounded type edge burnishing tool.
  9. This is #4 in the Fossil Fish series. 6oz leather, resolene resist, saddle tan finish
  10. Jessica, Do you have a sample pic of what you're after? As for "stiffening", a lot of that will depend upon the size of leather (weight), and the overall size of the tray. There are ways to harden leather after forming.
  11. For reference purposes, plastic piping filler and other items on rolls tend to like to wiggle and move, for short runs like you have, plastic welding rod comes in many different sizes and are readily available online. The kydex is a great idea as well. If you're not familiar with it, it's a heavy but light plastic material that is used for heat forming.
  12. That is a great idea! I currently use file folders and they are still a bit fragile at times. The Dollar Store is in my future! Thank you.
  13. I am yet to make a bag, but folks like you are really getting me kick started to try one soon! I just need to get up the nerve to hack into the side that was just delivered!
  14. When the friends of the kiddos want one as well, that is a true compliment to the work, especially from the young women!
  15. HA! If I had pulled out a camera for that, they would have been surgically removing that camera from me a bit later! She was MAD, right between 2 toes...
  16. Welcome! I'm just down the road in Plano, give me a shout if you need a hand or want to compare some work!
  17. T-Rex was using a hook made from pterodactyl bone and caught a coelacanth. Darn fish got loose, died, fossilized, and now we have an out of place object! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL
  18. Thanks Eccho. I love doing this type of portrait. Looking at it close up it really doesn't stand out, but step back about 4 feet and it "pops" and you can then see the shadows and details.
  19. Thanks folks! #4 starts today and should be the last in the Fossil Fish series.
  20. Looks like you have the tri weave down. Good edges on the case as well.
  21. Very awesome indeed! Did you wet form the leather over an actual rope? That looks killer!
  22. Here are the other 2 4wheeler4...
  23. That looks good and the antler piece really sets it off. You're correct, that is a killer piece of leather.
