  1. OH, I would have never thought about magnets messing with the phone. I have a cell.....somewhere so I guess I don't know a lot about the technology :-) Thanks Tim.
  2. Too cool. How does it clasp? I can see it shut but can't figure out how you're keeping it there. Cheryl
  3. Hey Bill would you mind showing the saddle bags you made in with these pics and identifying what goes where? Ever since I saw your saddle bags you use for products I've wanted to made a set for mine and this month ordered the leather for them. It should be here Monday. And what weight leather and type are you using on these new ones? What I got was only 4oz I think but I wanted mine kind of 'floppy' with stiff gussets to help them keep their form. Thanks, Cheryl
  4. I can only say those are too cool. Cheryl
  5. Well, not surprising, I misunderstood the way the contest was being run. Martha Stewart et al picked 20 finalist in the 5 categories and now that's the only people you can vote for. I wanted to thank those of you that supported me and encouraged me to go ahead with this, and the people who got in touch saying they would vote for me. Thank you all, Cheryl

    My Work Belt.

Brian, it just takes canvas and saddle soap? :-) You can read all about it in Bobby Park's pinned article in 'how do I do that.' I'll admit burnishers are easier, or so I've been told. I still use canvas and saddle soap, LOL. But don't get me wrong, your belt is truly beautiful.

    My Work Belt.

OK Brian, I'll be the downer since everyone else is concentrating on the braiding, and I already know how perfect you are at that. Had it been me I would have burnished all the edges before braiding so it would have been consistent when you got to the part that's not braided. I'm saying this for two reasons....one you are wanting to do more leather in your leather work, and also I have shaky hands and wouldn't be able to burnish and edge it now without getting it on the braid. That said, it truly is a beautiful piece of work. Cheryl
  8. Allen, you really make some beautiful straps
  9. That's beautiful Aaron. I finished a coin purse for a friend but didn't get a picture, moved and haven't found everything for my camera yet.
  10. Oh....on a holster? I think I'd run a scan of a real leaf then then use that for a carving pattern. Actually I've never scanned foliage before, what good idea. LOL
  11. Hi Chavez. I'm making a similar dog collar and after I install the pyramid spots I'm going to glue and sew a backing on the collar. As far as installing, would be most interested in finding out myself, because they are on their way and it's worrying me as far as getting them on straight. Hope you/I get some answers :-) Cheryl
  12. The one I got because I didn't have to buy a 35.00 set is around 1/2 x 1/2" Bigger than I wanted but an individual stamp. Saw them from 1/4th (the 35.00 set) to an inch on eBay Jake. It was I think 7.99 and free shipping? Go to LW tools and treatments there and you'll see all kinds of maple leaf stamps. Well I mean run a search for them after you get to T & T :-) Good Luck, Cheryl
  13. Exactly the kind of thing we're talking about. And the leather office supplies. If I want a leather pencil box I'll make it myself, not buy it. They're in the wrong place to sell leather goods which is kind of ironic. Cheryl
  14. Reuben, it's rocket science to people who can't do it. When I first asked that question I was told 2x the price of supplies plus what I wanted hourly. If they can get a new harness for 20 bucks how are you going to compete with that? You could always make your own leather harnesses so more people could see the advantages of leather vs nylon in length of time it lasts and comfort of the animal. If you can't find a way of convincing people to conserve their heritage and the heritage of sled dogs I don't know what else to suggest. Hit the historical society and get them behind you, and conservationists groups that are 'green.' If it's still usable don't throw it away, still USE it. You're in a tough place with a tough market but not an impossible one. They're making that nylon crap for draft horses too, and it's cheaper, but plenty of people still want leather. Go get 'em. Cheryl
  15. We aren't talking about you or other people who really are members, but the retailers of leather goods who come here, join, and post about their products, not to help or contribute to the forum. You know the difference. We have tons of members from all over the world and don't mean them. Cheryl LOL, Mike
  16. Denise the only reason I don't do that is like Ferg I don't read the things, pretty easy to see which ones they are. But yesterday they had things in the gallery for cripes sake. I just don't understand their reasoning because I can't believe they sell leather things to leather workers. It's just an annoyance, sorry, not that big a deal. Just a small nit pick to me. Internet phone solicitors :-)
  17. J I'm with you on this. Nothing but free advertising for people who aren't leatherworkers. And since it's free to join, most of them even join, and make 2 or 3 posts, all about their retail things. It's spam I don't care how you spell it. They aren't competition even.....I doubt seriously leather workers are going to buy their junk when they could make quality things themselves, but it is annoying. Cheryl
  18. Hey Jake, I just bought a maple leaf stamp. But when I'm looking for patterns, what I use is a search for, well in this case, maple leaf coloring pages. They're free to print out, and in b/w so easy to trace.
  19. You're not a morn on Ricky, you're a nice guy who takes people at their word. And I will stay a moron if that's what it is before I quit trusting people, well most of them, at their word. I still just get a handshake on the project and I always hope that I can take it to the bank. The true morons are those people who are ruining their reputation. Did you read the thread about the guy looking for deer skin because his suppliers were slacking off? Most of the people told him to go to Springfield. Do they have different leather than other people? Nope, just the best customer service I've ever had from ANY company. I want to stay a little Springfield always, and just toss the bad apples to the worms where they belong. Cheryl
  20. Ricky, I feel for you. I am the world's worst at getting money from people. I have a project that's been sitting here for a month that I didn't get 1/2 up front because the man was recommended to me by a friend. Nothing like the cost of your projects but hurts me more than it being the money. I did it twice because I wasn't happy with the first one and never got paid. And like you, not something I can sell to someone else. But I still took a dog collar and belt off a guy I just know as a bartender from the place the Guy advertising one of my straps works. Now the bartender is a sweet kid and I don't expect anything to go wrong, but ordered around $30.00 worth of materials yesterday to finish both projects. And for all I know he could quit tending bar tomorrow. I just have a hard time asking for money up front. It's not that I think they won't be happy with the project, or that I don't do good work which improves each time I do a new job, it's just hard. I hope you can get some satisfaction from these deadbeats. Cheryl
  21. I think it's so cool. Sure wish I knew what a cuttlebug was. Guess it's time for google :-) Really nice, Cheryl
  22. I get everything from Springfield Leather. My orders have NEVER gone over $100.00 at a time but they always treat me like I'm their most important customer they have. Great products, superb customer care, why would anyone shop anywhere else? Cheryl
  23. Very nice job Volpert. Cheryl
