  1. Not sure if there is one yet. As mentioned previously, I stitched the reinforcement first. By doing so, it was difficult for the machine to go into the corner of the wing once folded over. I may try sewing the wing first next time. However, that could prevent the inside of the holster from mating together flush.
  2. I stitched the reinforcement first. However, the next one I do I'll sew the wing first.
  3. Hey folks! Just finished up this IWB a few days ago. I got the pattern from Boothill Bob. This is the first hater of this type that I have done.
  4. Overall, not a bad piece of gear. However, I'd suggest cleaning up the stitching. I noticed on one photo that it had the appearance of having the stitch holes drilled out. I'd recommend not doing that and get a diamond point punch if you're still hand stitching.
  5. Pretty much the same for me, came with the class 4, tension problems, and back to regular set up. I have a hard enough time keeping tension set up anyway.
  6. Thanks for the photos Jeremy. Just ordered some "pull the dot" snaps.
  7. Thanks Tim. Yeah, not sure what was going on with the site last night. I originally tried editing the first post, but was told I didn't have permission. Boothill Bob took out the guess work with his pattern pack. But now I have to figure out how to make this style pattern for other models
  8. What brand snaps are you using? I tried 8-32 and the screw head would sit down into the stud on some of my off brand snaps. The screw head diameter was too big, dropped to a 6-32 and it worked just fine.
  9. I really enjoyed this thread. I took a few things from it and applied it to my latest holster. I used size 6-32 tee nuts and 6-32 flat top 100 degree screws. I placed the tee nuts on the outside of the leather as I was worried I may hit it with the sewing machine needle.
  10. Not an intentional bump folks. Having some issues with the site.
  11. What the heck is up with me not being able to edit this post? Says I do not have permission?
  12. Hey folks! I just finished up this IWB for a 1911. The pattern is from Henrik Boothill Bob Brandt's pattern pack. This was the first holster of this type for me.
  13. Brigade Gun Leather uses the t-nuts on their IWB holsters, looks damn nice too. And they're exposed on the backside. I believe I'll expose mine when I get around to working on an IWB in the near future. I like the idea of how a sandwiched nut would look. However I use a machine and don't wanna hit it with a needle. Plus, if it strips out it can easily be replaced by the user.
  14. Thanks Rayban. That's what I was hoping to hear. After all, they are the ones seeking out the service, they should pay for two way shipping. And after finishing my first, I agree 100%, it's almost impossible to make a sheath without the customers knife. Only ones I'll make without it will be a full size Ka-Bar and that's because I already have one of those.
  15. Thank guys! I'm ready to start on the next one. Think I'm gonna make up a few for the standard Ka-Bar and see if they'll sell. If not at least I can work on my technique.
  16. My first sheath. I'm somewhat happy with the way this turned out. This being my first, I learned a lot and realized I already knew a little already. What I came to realize is basic leather working still applies, cutting, edging, dyeing, burnishing, etc. What I learned was my basket stamping needs some work (been about 6 months) and stitching these things up with a machine is just like a belt, leave a little over hang on the bottom and then trim the excess. In addition to that, I'll cut my next welt out as a single piece, vise two like Ka-Bar does. Oh, and of course I learned a little more about setting up the machine to sew this thickness.
  17. Thanks Camano. I found one or two with google that look promising. When you draw your blade outline, how much wider do you make your welt? 1/4 inch?

  19. So I'm about 95% complete with my first knife sheath. I learned quite a bit making this thing. I didn't think it'd give me so many growing pains though. I kinda winged it but I wish I would of had a tutorial to use. I made it very similar to a Ka-Bar style sheath (tore apart a gun show special) and just figured it out I guess. So, is there anyone that has any tutorials? I'd love to be able to do more than Ka-Bar style. Additionally, for those that make sheaths for out of town customers, do you ask the customer to ship the knife to you? If you do, who covers shipping?
  20. From what I've seen, lined holsters are not very common at all. I've bought a few off-the-shelf and seen even more and I don't ever remember seeing one lined. Some companies, such as Brigade Gun Leather offer it as an extra option, but also at an extra expense. I've lined my western holsters, but I've never lined a holster for an auto.
  21. Thanks! And that's an excellent tip that I never thought about. Much appreciated.
