  1. looks really good. I'd be tempted to stick with the card slots as you've done them. I made one with horizontal slots and feel less happy with the security. If its turned upside down, the cards can fall out. Your method willl keep them secure.
  2. thats probably about right....4cm x 2cm
  3. thanks - i do enjoy that feeling, but i think i like the feeling of making the second one more, because by then you have leaned from all the mistakes on the first, and hopefully have something with a lot less errors and fudges! I just wish my stitching was as neat on the rear side as it is on the front (theres a reason i havent posted the rear photos!)..i stilll think i have a long way to go in getting near perfect stitching - and its probably all down to better awl control!
  4. thanks - i've always felt traditional satchels look a bit 2 dimensional, and thats why i made better use of the real estate on the sides! I think it makes a nice contemporary addition to a traditional design.
  5. After seeing my first satchel a month back, my friend Andie asked me to make two identical bags for her and her twin sisters upcoming birthday. Its taken me a bit longer than i expected, but the learning process has been great fun, and i now have a much clearer idea of what to do on future bag projects. Andie has just seen the finished bags and is blown away by them. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions for improvements.

Andies Clone Bags - One twin asked for a pair of clone bags for her and her sister as a birthday surprise. I also incorporated a logo they use into the billet strap to really emphasize that these are unique satchels. Completely handstitched throughout, the brief was that they needed to be able to comfortably hold an A4 writing pad and iPad. As only my second time making bags, i'm really pleased with the finished product....and more to the point, Andie is delighted with them!

With over 50" of strap on each bag, thats a huge amount of stitching...but it will help prevent the strap from stretching, and really adds to the overall look. 14. neat and classy. What size is the text?
  15. Thats correct. But be warned - its not veg-tan! You can ask them to send you some colour samples before you buy, so at least you can be sure the colour is what you want.
  16. if its any help - i recently bought a 22sq ft dyed thru full butt from LePrevo.co.uk This piece was roughly 4'x5' and provided more than enough leather to make two satchels...and i can probably get another smaller bag from the remains of the hide. They are unfinished in this picture - but you get the idea. I was able to cut shoulder straps 40" long, so when using two lengths with buckles for adjusting, i can get some very long straps if i need. The main gusset on these bags is 4" wide, and the bag was sized to be big enough to hold an A4 writing pad. One of the first pieces i ever bought was a veg tan belly - fine for small projects and i managed to cut a few belts from it, but it was no good for bags.

  18. the great thing is its useful for almost any repair you can think of! I added a couple of finger loops to a pair of pliers that i used to find a little small to hold without constantly dropping...i'll add a pic soon. My next sugru project - im going to be adding a couple of led lights to my stitching pony so i can see better when stitching whilst watching tv - this way i wont disturb the family by having all the lights blazing! I wish i had heard of the product 2 months earlier as i threw out a really comfy pair of boots that had previously unrepairable holes!
  19. market it at people suffering from water on the knee...the shoe with a tap on the ankle!
  20. i think what's missing from the sandals, and would certainly add to the unique look would be a pair of industrial plumbing handles on the sides of the soles. Steampunk footwear with a difference!
  21. I got a very nice brass stamp from LWLeather.com (they advertise on this site) and the web address will take you to Etsy. mines a 3x3cm square - be warned though, you will need a decent amount of force to ensure a clean impression. I am gonna buy an arbor press to get the stamp consistent. the detail is incredible - you can even see the Roosters eye on the leather and its almost microscopic!
  22. nice work on the sandals!
  23. oh! it appears someone has posted a comment on my gallery page and added a link in their post. I would remove the link, but cant see a way to do it.
  24. huh? what video?
